Luther and Sherlock are my jams right now. I haven't finished the current season of House of Cards yet, but I do like it.

My wife and I loved BSG so much that we haven't watched the last episode. Don't want it to end I guess.

The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Dexter (first four seasons), The Americans are some great dramas and Louie, Wilfred, Veep, Parks and Rec (NBC show), The League, Archer are some great comedies. There has never been a better era of television where all episodes of everything are right at your disposal with Netflix and HBOGo.

If you're looking for family friendly sitcoms then you're stuck with crap. Although Bob's Burgers on Fox is a suprisingly heartfelt show (although a little crude) featuring a loving family that has moral lessons as well.

The thread was talking more about family TV, but those shows you list are pretty good. I enjoy Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad (had a pretty good thread here leading up to the final episodes), and The Wire.

Haven't gotten the chance to touch up on Mad Men, Deadwood, or the Sopranos.

Are there very many family shows on TV anymore? Modern Family is really the only one I can think of.

It seems that they are all on Nick at Nite now, even though I don't think a show should qualify for N@N until it has been off the air for 20 years.

Damn. I forgot about Home Improvement.

Pete and Pete was great, but strange. I like to think of it as the earliest Napoleon Dynamite.

Another show that was quite good despite not having the popularity is Carnivale. Again, cut short too quickly, but at some point money talks more than quality, even for HBO.

OH YEAH! That series (Carnivale) REALLY pissed me off the way they ended it... Hell on Wheels is another good series...

Hell on Wheels is great. I'm waiting on the last season to come on Netflix. Sons of Anarchy is great also.

I'm looking forward to FX and their new show The Strain. I like Del Toro's stuff.

I heard good things about this new Halt and Catch Fire show as well as Silicon Valley.

Again, I think that it's a golden age for TV. You aren't totally lost for an entire season if you miss an episode since you can just stream it the next day.

Father Ted.

It was an Irish comedy show on RTE. It made fun of the Catholic Church and is easily one of the funniest shows I've ever seen.

Check out some of the videos on YouTube, especially concerning Father Jack, the drunk.

And before that...All in the Family That show broke ground in regard to talking about touchy issues and still being funny.

Loved the Honeymooners - an entire show set in a small room with just a kitchen table and two chairs. The Odd Couple was great. But Married with Children was the best ever.

I'm interested to see what they do with Girl Meets World. I wonder if they'll keep it similar to Boy Meets World with some meaningful lessons for young people, or if it will be more like television shows of today.

considering who's repsonsible for the entire production. Both Savage and Fishel (topanga) at one point reportedly said they wouldn't do the show if they changed the premise of the original.

so we'll see.

I don't expect Girl Meets World to be anything other than abominable.

I think that virtually every post on this thread missed the point. Now that's bipartisan action at its finest.

First thing I thought of is how my Nephew thinks that
“That '70s Show” was a valid representation of that decade.

So I’m not as concerned about culture at the time as I am about the
supposititious culture of a different time.

I’m sure my Parents felt the same way about Happy Days.

I'd hate to see what the depictions of the 90's are. Big flannel shirts, high-top sneakers with the pumps, slow ass internet, etc.

The only show I really look forward to these days is Game of Thrones.

I was a Sci-fi geek, Loved TNG, Deep Space Nine, Babylon 5, Earth, Final Conflict. Saturday nights before my drivers license was TNG, 227, Family Matters, Golden Girls, Empty Nest and Hunter; followed by 30 minutes of news and SLN when there was still some funny left in it. Later when the parents were well asleep some GLOW rounded out the TV evening.

Good family programming exists but in addition to that is hundreds of trashy shows added on. More cable stations on top of network tv now than ever.

lmao......IMO, it proved my everlasting point of the 'brainwashing effect'.....this thread defines what so many y's and millenials don't understand

it's fun to watch pigs wallow....what you pointed out is that bear trap I hope doesn't take off my daughter's ankle.....and I point out everything I can to help prevent that.....

information.....real information is the most powerful tool on the planet for the people that matter.....I don't care about the rest....

Real information is an enigma.

American entertainment has become relegated to a comic book genre with hashtags.
