I was watching Saved by the Bell on Netflix a few weeks ago... I couldn't believe I still remember every single episode that was ever produced... Until The College Years, I didn't watch it much after that.

I grew up watching Roseanne, Saved by the Bell, The Wonder Years, Tour of Duty, China Beach, Different Strokes, Three's Company, Full House, Family Matters, The Garry Shandling Show, Growing Pains, The Jeffersons, Dallas, Fresh Prince of Bellaire, and I'm sure I'm missing a few that I can't think of off the top of my head...

Society as a whole is getting hyper sexualized.

I miss Pinkeye and the Brain.

I'm interested to see what they do with Girl Meets World. I wonder if they'll keep it similar to Boy Meets World with some meaningful lessons for young people, or if it will be more like television shows of today.

From what I've seen from the trailer it looks like Girl is going to be a carbon copy of all the other Disney shows post 2004-ish.

I want to see China Beach but it has taken a long time to come on DVD and, now that it's out it is pretty damn expensive.

Through Netflix and Hulu I can watch shows that I would've paid no mind to when my parents watched them. Columbo, TNG, Twin Peaks, etc.

When "Disneyland" first appeared on TV in 1954, it started out with the appellation "Disneyland....the happiest place on earth." This may have been an apt metaphor of the US at the time.

The post war boom was in full swing. People had jobs, cars and televisions. Swanson brought us the TV dinner. Ike was one of the most popular Presidents in history. Korea was behind us. The civil rights movement was still off the radar. Although the Red Scare was present, with "duck and cover" drills in schools, the general mood of America was high.

I don't think Awkward or Secret Life are geared toward teens. Most people I know didn't start watching them until they were adults. Saved by the Bell was also a Saturday morning show.

My parents always watched Cheers and MASH. I knew as soon as I heard the music for MASH, it was time for me to go to bed... All through emelentary school... Horrible horrible, and I've never wanted to watch either of them because of that, lol.

In the 90's, I would get home from school just in time to catch the next episode of SbtB and then MTV's Most Wanted Top 25, then homework. I think Awkward is geared towards high school students for the most part, my GF loves that show...

Edit: I think MTV's Most Wanted was the Top 10 now that I think about it...

I still haven't watched Cheers besides the Jeopardy episode. I did fall in love with MASH though. Probably around 2004-ish when I got out of school.

Three shows I still can't bring myself to watch are Matlock, In the Heat of the Night, and Murder She Wrote.

I think a lot of the shows of that era were had the theme of "this is when America was "comfortable".

The shows that I watched before my time were Gilligan's Island (had a little crush on Ginger) and WKRP in Cincinnati...

Edit: I never got into Matlock, In the Heat of the Night, or Murder She Wrote either...

At this point, I really only watch AMC and HBO shows. Everything else generally blows.

You people are aware that there are shows outside of network TV, right? If we're talking about network TV, then yes, it's garbage. But HBO, Showtime, FX, AMC all have produced fantastic shows.

The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Dexter (first four seasons), The Americans are some great dramas and Louie, Wilfred, Veep, Parks and Rec (NBC show), The League, Archer are some great comedies. There has never been a better era of television where all episodes of everything are right at your disposal with Netflix and HBOGo.

If you're looking for family friendly sitcoms then you're stuck with crap. Although Bob's Burgers on Fox is a suprisingly heartfelt show (although a little crude) featuring a loving family that has moral lessons as well.

You forgot Prison Break, True Blood, DaVinci's Demons, and Salem is up and coming...

Can't stand True Blood personally. I tried, twice...couldn't go past the first two episodes. Vampires aren't my thing.

Also, Sherlock (the BBC one with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman) just released their third season to Netflix.

I forgot Walking Dead too. I'm not the biggest fan of it, but it's the most watched non network TV show out there.
