Civil disobedience is not terrorism... Or am I just missing your sarcasm?
Half sarcasm - half because I suspect I know what they are threatening to do. I live fairly close to Lexington.
BTW - the road that goes from Lynchburg to Lexington is named "Lee-Jackson Highway" and the road from Roanoke to Lexington is "Lee Highway".
Pfft. What Jerry doesn't tell you is that 80% of the roads throughout VA are named after Lee.
There is even a Lee Highway (Rt.50) in Northern Virginia that goes through both Arlington County and Fairfax County...how that name has stayed through two of the most liberal municipalities in the mid atlantic is beyond me.

I agree. They probably took a tour of that campus and they've probably heard the history ad nauseum.
There are better schools out there for them.

SMAUG,
If that were true, then why did Abe introduce the idea of Emancipation two years after Ft. Sumter? Please read how "the great emancipator president #16 felt about the blacks.

So, the Vice President of the Confederacy didn't say those things?

What racism? She got accepted didn't she? It's a false crusade. Besides, that way of thinking isn't applicable in every situation in which you find yourself disagreeing. At a point it becomes cultural genocide.

Look, you're going to get yourself lost if you keep posting things like this.
US Rt 50 and US Rt 29 begin to come close together in Arlington. They actually meet and run together for a short distance in Fairfax City.
Rt 29 is known as Lee Hwy in N Virginia before they run together.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Route_29_in_Virginia
US Rt 50 is known as Lee-Jackson Hwy, once they split in W. Fairfax.
What is interesting is that Google Maps does not have Rt 29 listed as Lee Hwy.

I just came from Rt. 11 where Rt.501 meets in Lexington.
Rt.11 is Lee Highway south of Lexington and Rt.501 is Lee-Jackson... North of Lexington, Rt.11 has signs for both "Lee Highway" as well as "Lee-Jackson Highway". Never noticed that before today.

There's no harm in asking but I don't think the school should do it unless they're worried about how it impacts the school's reputation. Embracing the confederate flag is just like wearing baggy pants with your butt hanging out: You think it signifies one thing, but everybody else sees something completely different.

It will hurt their reputation worse by complying with these silly demands.

RE: 7 Students @ Washington & LEE demand removal of Confederate Flags
Lincoln offered the south to ok to keep their slaves in February 1861 if they would pay the tariffs that the federal govt was asking for. See the Corwin Ammendment.
Also, why has the US been the only country to shed 750,000 lives to end the institution of slavery. The only country in the world to use war and bloodshed to do so. Slavery was on its way out on its own. It was about a government encrouching on its people for cash money!

The "road in between" Roanoke and Lexington, is US Highway 11.
Deo Vindice
US Highway 11 is Lee Highway... hence the truckstops, bowling lanes, etc named LEE HIGHWAY ______
I am well aware of that. My point was that it is a UNITED STATES HIGHWAY with that name attached to it. Just like parts of US 1 is Jeff Davis in Richmond. These roads, bridges, buildings schools were all named after great people from the CSA. The yankee carpet baggers at W&L need to read a book, grow up and appreciate oour Southern Heritage.

There may be a better "fit" out there for them, but you'd be hard pressed to find many better schools. They exist, but not a whole bunch of them.

That's what I was saying. UVa, W&M, George Mason, and others are around.

RE: 7 Students @ Washington & LEE demand removal of Confederate Flags
Let's not make the mistake of thinking that Robert E. lee simply showed up one day as a staunch defender of slavery and decided to start a war over it, or command an army to defend it. He was from a long line of Patriotic and public serving Americans, including Governors, original colonists and a whole host of important ancestors. His own Father was considered a revolutionary hero.
He graduated first in his class (I believe that's correct) from West Point and was a decorated Officer in the Mexican- American war and was originally tapped by Lincoln himself to lead the Union forces. He declined, as he felt his loyalty was first to the State of his birth and where his family had settled centuries prior. He was a Virginian first, a United States citizen second.
Different times that really can't be judged nor challenged with today's "standards". This place was his home and the home of his family, relatives and ancestors. He felt it was his duty to fight for HIS state, not New York or Massachusetts against his people.
Like his 4 year stint as the Commander of the Army of Northern Virginia or not, he was a great American and public servant and was following his own loyalties. He then served as President of W & L for some time, a College named after George Washington himself, so someone found him fit to do so.
