Has Northeastern as the CAA winner and in one of the 16 seed play-in games...yikes.

Not to but this leauge is a shell of what it used to be. A CAA team only being represented as one of the 16 play-in games in early bracketologies was unthinkable as little as 24 months ago.

I don't think Joe L put too much thought into choosing the mid-low major winners, but the fact that nobody is left to at least draw some interest on a national outlet is telling.

I still think our best bet if we're doomed to a life of FCS football is to beg our way into the A10 for all our other sports. At least that way we'd be back with our VA rivals and we'd add GW to the mix.

1) - even if somehow the wheels do fall off and we don't announce this year, it doesn't "doom us for life" to FCS. There's enough teams still shifting around to open up spots next year. I strongly believe we are moving this year though.
2) - Atlantic 10 is no longer a great fit for JMU. 20 years ago when Lefty was here it would have been, but not now. I would take SBC over A10 in a heartbeat.

Ok, I'll bite. Why is the A10 with VCU, Richmond, Mason, GW, St. Joe's, and LaSalle all within 4 hours of JMU, plus Dayton and UMass (among others) not a great fit for JMU? Especially as opposed to the Slum Belt, where the only school any of our students have likely heard of is Appy?

I think the fear of JMU going FBS could scare the A-10 away. I believe the New York Times story from a couple of years ago that broke the news of VCU and George Mason getting interest mentioned that they didn't intend to pursue Old Dominion because of the then-possibility that they'd move to FBS.

Because we are no longer a "basketball first" school either competitively or in terms of attendance. Our strength is now football, and outside of UMass (who has a horrible FB program) and RU these schools generally do not play football. Perhaps if we went SBC for football, moving to A10 for other sports might work well in the short term.
But it's not a long term solution - and would likely be every bit as messy as the old Big East, or UMass in the Mac was.
