"One thing is certain now regarding funding sources: because of the public discussion initiated by the university, supporters of JMU Athletics are responding in large numbers that they will increase their support if the university were to make the move to an FBS conference. The feedback from many of these same supporters also has indicated that the university cannot assume continuing significant increases in donations if the current affiliation is maintained in light of all of the recent changes both in the CAA and nationally with regard to conference affiliations. In fact, the Carr report’s projection that private giving in support of athletics would grow at a slower rate if JMU were to remain in Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) is substantiated by input we received during the Madison Future Commission community feedback gathering process and in direct conversations with supporters."

"...responding in large numbers..." does not really provide any real feedback. What were the results from the survey? My guess, consistent with everything that I've seen and heard, is that the loudest voices are the 50 or so consistent posters here. I just don't get the feel that many else (including students) really care.

This is a fact though: Dropping your support of athletics now is a sure way to kill any chance of JMU going FBS. The only way to ensure JMU going FBS is to increase your donations to show that alumni support football and that the move won't be on the backs of students.

This is where you are wrong. As fans there are only two ways to force a change in athletics. One is to vocally state as a collective fan base that you will no longer support the "coach or program" by lack of attendance. Two is financially, like one poster has done, when it is time for donation renewals write a letter stating that you will increase your donation if ___ goals are met and stating that you will withhold donations if the current course is maintained.

If the fans want the move to FBS it is real simple, demand it! Make it cost more to stay FCS that it would cost to move to FBS. It is not a lack of support, loyalty, passion or love of JMU if fans refuse to attend or fund athletics at JMU. That is the only leverage as a fan you have. Athletics is a business at the FBS level, you are the consumer, if JMU's administration wants to remain FCS then you make them pay. If they decide that FBS is the goal you must reward them with ticket purchases and more donations.

Name one program that has moved up a level because their fans stopped attending games and giving money.

name another university that put 62 million into stadium expansion and decided stay put

Name another university that routinely sold out a 15,000 seat stadium with an unmet demand for thousands of additional tickets thereby frustrating countless number of JMU parents and alums who couldn't get tickets for the all-important Parents Weekend and Homecoming games and also limiting JMU's flexibility to provide VIP-type tickets and effectively market the university to recruits, donors, etc., thereby further frustrating everyone who wasn't previously frustrated. Given JMU's circumstances, stadium expansion made perfect sense.

Besides, JMU has NOT made the decision to "stay put."

I'm not going to stay tuned to watch the team waste away in the CAA. What's the point? Plenty of other things to do that will anger and depress me less.

can't answer a simple question so you ask another dumb*** question in response. you should go into politics

so you've shown you can't name another university. and that decision will no longer make sense once attendance is back down to 15,000 and that will happen if we don't make a move. Bourne has already cut the home schedule to 5 games - even he knows 20,000+ will no longer be sustainable and he's a moron.

that's ok. you seem to only dole out "rhetorical" questions whereas i asked a simple question could actually be answered if one existed.
