RE: Birdsong to transfer
The best situation a team can have is what happened to us for a few years with a good qb following 2 years behind a good qb as in Rascati, Landers, Dudzik until MM decided to give JT a shot before he was ready and the whole pattern blew up.

Birdsong to transfer
Birdsong wasn't even that highly regarded in Richmond. We had a losing conference record last year. It sucks because he did show some signs but in the end the better man got the job and he's fleeing town. Call it what you want.
If I'm interviewing someone for a job and their reason for wanting to leave is "someone got promoted over me", I'm not buying.

I don't have anything against MB, and don't know the whole story. Not exactly sure what you guys mean by "politics". But, life doesn't work this way. If somebody is better than you, you can't just transfer. I know it happens all the time but I think this exposes a weak character. Stay where you are, do whatever it takes to get on the field. Tight end, slot back, hell, even the kicking and receiving team. Pull your big boy pants up and work your ass off. Never quit.

If you feel this way then you can't possibly welcome Vad Lee. After all, he transferred down to poor old JMU. Vad didn't like the situation at Ga Tech, so he did what was in his best interest. Same thing for Birdsong. What is good for the goose........

No, it is my understanding that VL transferred solely because he didn't like the offensive scheme. I see your point but I think that is way different than someone is just better than me.

Life definitely works this way. Let's say you set a couple of sales records at your company but they bring in another salesman to work your territory. You're gonna examine your other opportunities. And if you think you can go to another company selling the same thing - instead of selling stuff you don't like to sell - you're gonna take a chance.
MB is a JMU guy. He has JMU family. I have a feeling this decision killed him but was about trying to take advantage of the time he had left to play. We can all be as hardcore as we want, but we're ignoring some realities MB is facing.

We would have never got Rascati under this logic.

Again, I see this different. This clearly looks to me as another guy is just better. Not that MB wants something different. It appears to me that he just quit because someone was better than him. If so, that is a character issue.

Well, you base your case on the "fact" that he got beat out. We don't know that; we assume it, but we don't know it. I suspect there was more to it. Perhaps he couldn't stand his position coach; perhaps he felt like he wasn't getting a fair shot; perhaps there was a pure personality conflict with a person in authority; perhaps he felt disrespected. Who knows. Maybe it will come out eventually. But, I have been around a long time and my radar says there is a whole lot more to this move.

From my opinion Vad is not a clear cut better qb than MB. Vad is just a better athlete. Fits more of what OSU is doing within offense.

Why can't it be both? If the other guy's better than him, he's the backup. He doesn't want to be a backup, so he wants something different. He's not quitting. He's hoping to go somewhere he can start.
EDIT: I also agree with HotRod above. Vad is "better than him" in the sense that he's a better fit for the offense.

All true. My base argument is that he left because he wasn't going to start. If that is not the case, then my comments don't apply.

How is it not comparable? They are both doing what they think is best for them. Explain your position, please.
