Pro Golf - Curtis in Houston; Hahn in Spain
Ben Curtis had a solid outing last week at the Valero Open where he finished tied for 46th. I kind of felt that he's really close to putting together a nice tournament - maybe a top 10 finish. Well, he shot a five under today in the first round of the Shell Houston Open and is currently tied for fourth one shot out of the lead. It'd be great to see a strong effort.

John Hahn is playing in Spain in his first tournament in several weeks. He only finished 8 holes today at one over is tied for 40th. You can follow his play here.

Mackenzie Hughes missed the web.com cut last week in Louisiana. He shot a poor 74 the first day, came back with a good 68 in the second, but missed the cut by 3 shots.

Interesting that it does not look like he will compete next week at the Masters unless I'm missing something. Hope he can continue to keep his card whenever it is next up.

Curtis is tied for fifth after three rounds. Seven Behring Kuchner but only three out of second.

Anyone know if Ben were to win tomorrow would he get a Masters invite?

Judging by the earlier post I'd say yes however a long way to go today to make that happen. A top10 finish even would be very nice considering the best he's done this year (despite making many cuts) is T32 back in November.

Curtis bogeyed two of the final three holes and finished tied for 12th. Even though the finish was slightly rough, it's probably the best tournament Curtis has had since he finished tied for 11th in the 2012 PGA Championship, as the caliber of the competition was quite high. He's made three straight cuts now and hopefully has turned a corner and will play better throughout the summer.
Hahn played a nice tournament (tied for 20th), but really laid an egg on Saturday shooting a 76. In this case, the quality of competition was pretty low as was the overall payout, but Hahn has played solid golf. He'll probably have to sit for a few weeks before getting another chance to play as next week is an off week for the European Tour and then the tour heads to Asia where there seems to be a load of local pros clogging up the pipe.
