RE: UCONN "I am New York"
I don't think there was anything else UConn could've done to get in the ACC this last time...
I firmly believe that after the uproar of 2010, Rutgers was given assurances by the B-10 that they would be invited, so that when Cuse & Pitt left, Rutgers was conspicuous by their silence. the dog that did NOT bark in the night...
So when Cuse & Pitt announced their departure, it was UConn who went into full-on frantic mode similar to what Rutgers had done previously. But then... they quieted down. So that after the MD announcement, they also did NOT bark in the night...
They clearly, it seems to me, also got assurances from the ACC, and even Jurich said everyone was 'penning' in UConn to take MD's place. But just then, the tables were turned and FSU, Clemson, and apparently Cuse lobbied hard for UofL... w/ possibly threats of departure of FSU & Clemson to the B-12 if they didn't get what they wanted.
So, in the final analysis, it wasn't the marketing prowess of UConn... and yet, at the same time, they did need to 'market' themselves to Clemson & FSU. NYC marketing won't necessarily turn the trick, but it can't hurt.
People forget that the BE was renewed as a BCS conference, part of the Big Six, at about 2008, IIRC-- the conference was flying high, really, right before the crash, and while it was performing well (that was about to change on the gridiron), and had a unique makeup w/ local hoops flavor + ND, I still believe that the biggest thing it had going for it was the triumvirate of Rutgers, Cuse & Uconn encircling NYC...
