RE: Ward Combine Numbers (Update: Not Cleared to Compete, Foot Injury)
- I can confirm Jimmie Ward/DB/Northern Illinois was not cleared to participate in Tuesday’s combine workout after being diagnosed with a Jones fracture in his foot. Its considered a mid/small fracture; in a nutshell I’m told it’s a less severe version of what Julio Jones worked out with several years ago. The injury will be resolved with a simple procedure after the NIU pro-day. I’m told Ward, who felt ready to go earlier this week despite being pulled from the workout by combine officials, plans on fully participating in the NIU pro-day next week.

From looking it up online, it looks like hes going to have to get a screw put in and recovery time is 2+ months. Also has a 30-50% re-fracture rate. Doesnt seem that minor... Hopefully this isnt a big issue for JW

Wow. Says "Jones" fracture, but not named after Julio Jones, although he had one.

I had a Jones fracture and could not take more than one step without excruciating pain. Right outside of my foot. I was in a cast 6 weeks I think, maybe more. As the Dr said and rightfully so, you will feel it the rest of your life as it really never heals, just fills up with calcium. Hurts with different shoes, cold, sometimes pressure. But I was told the chance of breaking it in the same place was slim.

That really sucks.

Keep in mind that Ward seemingly had this injury prior to the combine and has likely been training with it. He planned on doing all the workouts at the combine until the medical staff ruled him out...the pain/comfort level must not be that bad for him.

And just to confirm, NIU Pro Day is March 12th right?

Yeah you're right. Amazing what a quick google search can do.

Considering it's this week, haven't seen much/anything regarding it from the local NIU media outlets. I'm assuming Jimmie will have a big crowd. For a guy that is probably a lock for the 2nd round and a fringe 1st round pick, the local media isn't doing a good job.

But what about Lynch's plans. Is he going to run other position drills? Are guys like Martel going to come back to run routes since NIU had zero Sr. receivers?

What about UDFA guys like Bishop?

Kind of disappointing.

Yeah I'm surprised the NIU Pro Day isn't getting any conversation/coverage really. I'm sure it will be well attended because of Ward. I wouldn't expect the Chicago papers to run any stories before it takes place but some info from HuskieWire would be nice.

Harnish was in town last week working with Jordan in the CPC. I'm sure if Martel can make it back, he would love a chance to showcase his talents in front of more scouts as well. It may be better to throw to current receivers he has his timing down with. TLL is in a walking boot right now. He tore some ligaments in his left toe. He said he'll be in the boot a couple of more weeks to see if it will heal on its own. If not, he'll need surgery and may be down 2 months. So no TLL on Pro Day

Is this serious? Worst case scenario he has surgery and rehabs for a few months. It's March.

Just don't want another Akeem Daniels situation heading into next year. Hopefully this heals. Wonder when this injury happened?

Pro Day is for people going pro (like Ward and Lynch and others) or those who need a team (i.e., Martel Moore and Perez Ashford) who have already finished school. Tommie Lee Lewis is a junior who will be playing next year for the Huskies so he wouldn't be at Pro Day even if he was healthy.

The Pros used to measure and time the Jrs./Srs so they developed their database on prospects. Is there anyone in the coming Sr class this fall that is considered an NFL canidate?
