Ward Combine Numbers (Update: Not Cleared to Compete, Foot Injury) - NIU32 - 02-24-2014 04:48 PM

Safeties did the lifting portion today.

As far as bench press goes, Jimmie did 9 reps at 225 lbs

Compared to the other top 3 safeties:

Clinton-Dix - Alabama - 11 reps[/font]
Pryor - Louisville - 18 reps
Bucannon - Washington St - 19 reps

40 and field work starts tomorrow

He can get stronger

RE: Ward Combine Numbers - NIU32 - 02-24-2014 06:17 PM

bench press doesnt really mean anything to Jimmie on the field. I used to talk to the scouts a lot at the pro days when i was at school and he said for the teams, they use the bench test as more of gage of how much effort and dedication guys put into training and their craft.

For example, Dri Archer just did 20 reps at 5'8" 173.
Clowney did 21 reps at 266 lbs

Archer obviously has been training pretty hard where as there are questions about Clowney's commitment. Im a little surprised Ward didnt put up a better number after 4 years in a D1 strength program and training for the combine. Dont think it will hurt him that much though

Did Lynch do the Bench Press?

Thats what I figured but considering he's doing drills with the RB's and other positions I thought maybe he'd BP

Disappointing to say the least, hopefully he can go sub 4.5 in the 40.

Time to fire strength guy if our safeties can't get 15 reps at 225

RE: Ward Combine Numbers - Enaiu - 02-24-2014 08:04 PM

Maybe this is what the guy from http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/jimmie-ward?id=2543741 meant when he said "needs to learn what it means to prepare like a pro."???

Lol

There's plenty of DBs playing in the NFL today that can't do 15 reps

Gee, Jimmie couldn't lift the weight as many times as another guy. Guess that means he'll be a terrible safety in the NFL, and his brilliant career at NIU was a fraud. My goodness, he probably won't be able to break up or intercept a pass and he certainly won't be able to tackle.

If the f'cking combine means so much, why do players waste 4+ years playing college football? Let them just spend the time training for the combine.

Jimmie Ward/DB/Northern Illini not cleared to participate in Tuesday's combine workout due to foot issue-full story

10:30PM

Jimmie Ward will not be taking part in Tuesday’s defensive backs workout. Routine Combine medical evaluations revealed a foot issue. Ward is still awaiting more to the exact nature of the injury, and initial reports are the injury is considered relatively minor.

Combine medical procedures dictate that Ward not be allowed to participate even if he wanted to (similar to Austin Sefarian-Jenkins). Like Sefarian-Jenkins, the situation is surprising in that the player had been running and training without any discomfort, or indication of an injury. Ward came to Indianapolis planning to fully take part in Tuesday’s showcase. Ward had been working out at the same facility as Jadeveon Clowney and Jerick McKinnon, two players who’ve exceeded expectations the past two days in combine workouts.

As first reported Thursday, Ward was expected to perform extremely well in all areas of Tuesday’s on field workout. In fact, Ward has been consistently running 40 times in the 4.4s. Multiple teams have Ward behind only Calvin Pryor and HaHa Clinton-Dix among the safety population.

i bet we have a lot more teams than usual at our pro day this year to check out Ward live now. Could be good news for Lynch, will give him another chance to throw in front of more scouts w his own recievers

And we have the CPC open this year.

Anybody know what date NIU pro day is? I kept missing it on the NFL "scroll".

Lynch could have an amazing pro day and I still don't think he'd be considered as a QB. Too short, small hands. And save the Drew Brees/Russell Wilson comparisons, the exception does not make the rule. As for switching positions I don't see where he would fit in. He's either too small, slow or short for anything else.

At this point I hope he doesn't even make the NFL. I'd rather see him get real playing time in Canada if he still chooses to pursue a football career.
