UTEP fan RECS for conference tourney
Restaurants (non-chains), Things to Do, stuff for kids, etc
I assume you do NOT recommend going to Juarez.
I thought it would be nice to put it all in one spot, for everyone headed that way.
Also, Where are the women playing ?

Chico's Tacos is very overrated. I know you said non-chains, but if you have never had it before you need to go to a Whataburger.

You can't go wrong with any restaurants in El Paso... BUT you have to do Cattleman's Steak house.
I heard Josh Pastner really liked chuckee cheese... My son loves Bobo's, we also have Westernplayland amusement park.
DON'T GO TO JUAREZ, the situation has calmed down over there, but I still haven't been there in several years.
The women will play at memorial gym, right next to the Haskins center

What's a good Mexican restaurant in El Paso? I'd have to imagine there's some great mexican being so close to the border.

You might not know it, but you just opened a large can of worms.

All of the early rounds for the women's games will probably be memorial gym right across the street from the Don Haskins Center. Home of the 1966 Texas Western Miners.

Juarez is a big nope from what I've heard. Friends from El Paso always talk about it.

And these dudes speak the truth about the can of worms. El Pasoans can argue for hours over the best Mexican food here.
Carlos and Mickeys is a cool place at night, music and large margaritas.
Avila's and Leo's are also good choices.
And yup, Cattlemans is the best steak restaurant in our area. It's about 15 to 20 min east of El Paso and has a petting zoo.

The L&J café is one of my favorites. I also like Lucy's which is about a mile from the Haskins Center. I will be at every game starting Wednesday. Let me know where you are sitting and I will drop by and say hi, and who knows maybe by you a beer.

PM me, and I will take a couple of you to great restaurants.
GTS was here a while back. He saw some stuff he wouldn't see in GA, and seemed to have a decent time.

In Canutillo near the outlet mall, try "The Little Diner" best "Gorditas" in the area... And no! Not talking about getting a chubby bride to take back home lol

I also love the Little Diner. That's actually my favorite place for gorditas.

If you are in EP for more than a day, you need to give Chico's a shot. Some say it's overrated, some say it's ambrosia incarnate; but it is unique and it is an EP institution.

One thing I've only found in El Paso that I really missed were chile relleno burritos. If I could load up on a pallet full I would.
Chicos, to me was an aquired taste. After the fourth visit, I really started to enjoy it.

Track One has some good double dipped wings.
Speaking Rock and Sunland Park have slot machines.
Check to see what's happening at The Plaza and Chavez Theater.
