UTEP wants conference office to review hard foul by ECUs Jada Payne
UTEP has asked for video from one of our local television stations and has sent it the CUSA office for review. Payne was called for a flagrant foul on the play. The foul occurs about the 1 minute mark of the sports story on the injury Thornton suffered as a result of the foul. I personally think they officials made the right call and that Payne shouldn't face any more discipline from the conference offices. It could really hurt ECU if she was suspended for the game against MTSU.

Thorton not cleared to play

Really hard to tell from the video whether it was "flagrant" or not. Definitely a hard foul, but after rewinding several times, it looked more to me like she (Jada) was grabbing at the ball and the slam into the floor occurred as both players pulled apart and she (Utep player) was on another ECU players leg and fell/got pushed/momentum over. Unless a different camera view shows something different, that view there, doesn't warrant a suspension. JMHO.

If that is the case then nothing else should be done. The conference office should have an easier time being fair than either UTEP or ECU officials.

This is more like what goes around comes around. A few weeks ago when Southern Miss played at utep our guard Alex Coyne was saving a ball on the baseline, while both her feet were off the floor Thornton shoved her with both hands into the base of the basket support. Coyne missed 6 games with a bruised spine. Oh, Thornton laughed at alex while she was on the ground. Totally thuggish behavior.
I saw that game sat night on all access. The foul was much less flagrant than Thornton's foul on Coyne.

There was a hard foul by Jada Payne on Thorton after a jump ball was called. Payne pushed Thorton after the whistle and Thorton's head hit the ground really hard giving her a concussion. A flagrant foul was called but their was no ejection. UTEP was asking for the conference office to look at the play to determine if a suspension is in order. I personally don't think a suspension should be given and the officials at the game made the right call.

Huh. I was at that game, and remember that play. I didn't see a two-handed shove. I did see a forearm to the back.

You are correct in that it is 'goes around comes around'. Early in the ECU game KT just leveled Payne with a forearm to the upper chest, while setting up for position in transition. KT got the foul, and chuckled.

I won't defend KT's behavior; she is vocal, rough, and gritty on the court. Label her actions thuggish. WBB is turning into a more physical and therefore thuggish game.

While the league is reviewing that play, they need to go back and look at that Connor Tucker take out on Sampson last year. Blatant obvious cheap shot that an honorable gentleman like Shemarr Bowden remedied moments later.

I adressed this last year, he didn't, never touched him.
