Hudl position says CB/SS. Seems more S than CB to me. Tough to guage speed, but it looked like he was playing catch up on deep routes. However, it seems he could excel in press coverage. Maybe more of a Ward type blended safety/nickel back to cover the slot WR. Seems like a tough kid.

Look at the qualifiers, they're not just tall, they fast(4.65 or better) and have leaping ability(29 inches or higher). Those are the athletes you want at WR who can make a good QB a great QB.
Further Zack Davis average 19 yards per reception last year with 48 for 910 with 7 TD's. Yeah who wouldn't want him.
I'll take tall fast athletes over short fast DB"s any game any time.

RE: 2015 Recruiting Thread
4.65 isn't fast. It's not slow, but it isn't fast either. The lowest DB vertical at the NFL combine was 32.5". Every single LB at the combine was over 30". I know it's the NFL combine, but a 29" vertical isn't anything special either these days.
You're also assuming they can read the defensive coverage, block, run good routes, have good hands, etc. It's just ridiculous to make a blanket statement that we should recruit anyone that is tall and runs sub 4.7. Would I want Randy Moss? Of course. I'm sure there are hundreds of other 6'5" WR that would be terrible though.

I like TALL athletes especially at TE,DE,OL,. Kill made a comment recently that he likes to recruit length and speed, he understands he's not getting 5* recruits. Its good sign if a guy plays more than -1- sport as well.

I agree with all of this. Just doesn't make sense to say that if a guy is 6'5 and runs 4.7 that we should offer him a scholarship.

Most (not all) of the DB's taken in the first 2 rounds of the NFL draft were in the 5-8 to 5-11 range a 36 in verticle won't do a DB that size much good against Calvin Johnson, Alshon Jeffrey or Rob Gronkowski.
I'll put a 6-4 receiver with 4.5 speed, a 34 verticle & 19 YPC( Zach Davis) & 6-5 with 4.65 and 29 verticle (Desmond Kirby) up against any MAC secondary and win.

You're completely ignoring the fact that you can't just offer any HS WR who is 6'5 and runs sub 4.70. They need to know how to run routes, block, catch the ball, read coverages, learn more routes, etc etc etc. You have some ridiculous notion that being tall and running halfway fast would instantly make you a top WR in the MAC. That just isn't true. I'm glad we have football professionals running the program.

LOL glad to hear that some people on here arent out of their minds because literally 90% of the people on here hear about a potential recruit and proceed to list height, weight, 40 time (these are basically ALL self reported at a HS level by the way - yes your coach hand timing you is self reported) followed by "wow imagine him paired up with (insert established and proven college player here)". or talk about how he reminds you of someone like jimmie ward solely based off the fact that he is a similar size speed and height. based on this methodology there are 10 million jimmie wards in the country just waiting to be stars. yah height, weight, and speed play into the "potential" equation but i hate to break it to you guys - if there was any guy that had totally prototypical height, weight, speed ie he was "the total package" he would not be considering NIU. so when you talk about us offering a guy that is 6"4', 225 pounds, and "runs" a 4.4, realize that he probably is not very good at football at all (at least currently). thats all!

RE: 2015 Recruiting Thread
When recruiting skill position players the most important thing is...SKILL. You have NFL QBs that run 5.25 and 5'9 - 5'11 WRs why? Because they have skills they know how to play football.

Davis already has D1 offers and Kirby soon will have from Minnesota since Kill has no WR commits and only 8 offers out to WR's.

New offer out to dual-threat QB Demry Croft from Boylan in Rockford. He is rated an 88 and is a 3 star prospect according to 247 but we seem to be his best offer to date. This could be a huge get?

I'm surprised it took us this long to offer Croft. I'm guessing he has multiple BCS offers before signing day.

Really like what Demry Croft looks like on film. Granted it is a highlight reel so you only see the good, but he looks like a potential RG3 2.0. He would be a great get for this offense.

with his size the instant comparison that comes to mind is terrelle pyror. he definitely jumps out as someone who could be the next guy in line as a great QB in this offense. the system we really gives us a legitimate shot w this kid IMO
