If anything, such a visit could have easily backfired if he had gone to Georgetown/Marquette/etc., and then the C7 says something like "Yeah, we appreciate the efforts of Dr. Cowen but for the time being we feel like our best interests lie elsewhere"-blah-blah. If all that had happened, the whole "Tulane-caused-the-BE-to-break-up" mythology would have been even more deeply ingrained into the media's narrative then it already is.
wear it like a badge of honor.
i would rather be in a conference with tulane than any of the cheesey c7 schools
Gracias, shere khan.
Usually, when people say that Tulane cause the Big East to break-apart, I just say "You're welcome." So your point about a badge-of-honor makes sense. But at the same time, I just think we're all better off if we deal with things as they actually are and not as we wish they were.
Classic football cover by John Chase (1905-1986), who also did similar work for Texas and some other schools. I love the goofy humor of that style, but I'm sure the marketing consultants would say it's too uncool for today.
