Well, they're in a conference that just became a one-bid league with zero media profile. The AAC would be a significant step up from the Missouri Valley in every way--competition, exposure, institutional profile. (At this point, a number of leagues would be plausible-but-unlikely moves for Wichita STate--AAC, Big East, A-10, Mountain West.)
A big question is do the AAC presidents want Wichita State as a peer. WSU is ranked as a "Tier 2" national university by US News, and I don't know exactly what that means, except that they have a 95% acceptance rate. So if Texas Tech trolls call UH "Cougar High", I don't know what you call Wichita State.
Oh, you mean "Tortilla Techs" trolls... Got it

In 2000, after a decade of losing, Wichita St drew more than 7000 fans a game. Good for 62nd in the nation.
That's their worst case scenario. They might well drop off in quality with a new coach. But the fans will show up big time.
7000 fans per game is not "big time".
That would make them in the top portion of the new AAC. Each time I see them on TV the place is packed.

They Won 35 minutes or so of that Semifinal... Damn, they were close. That was the last game I watched during the Tournament as I'm not a fan of the "name" programs, and that was all that remained (UofL, Syracuse, Michigan). I'm a Mid-Major Guy, what can I say...
A Fantastic Program Gregg Marshall has built, as he did at Winthrop prior. I'm so glad to see guys like him and Shaka Smart stick around once they find initial success. A good change of pace indeed.

lets see...we let Georgetown, Marquette, Nova, and other go because we want an all sports league with a football first priority and then after all the smoke clears we decide to add non football members like VCU, Wichita St, etc. Makes sense...

Bearcats #1 (and anyone else), going back to the Catholic Schools leaving the Big East, the breaking point was Tulane's invite it seems. If that wouldn't have occurred, would the League have stuck together?
I remember when UCF recevied the invite and thinking how cool it would be to play Conference Games against the teams here now as well as G'town, 'Nova, Marquette, etc.. As bad as the Knights are this season, imagine that.. 16 Seed in NYC for UCF indeed.

You didn't "let" us go. We left based on an agreement that dated back to Cincinnati's membership in the conference. Then you chose to take a large pile of cash instead of fighting in court over exactly when we would leave, and for the Big East name.
That doesn't mean Wichita State, or any non-football school, is a good or a bad idea for you guys. They're two completely separate questions. That said, having one nonfootball member out of 12 is not going to have the effect on league governance and politics that 7-8 out of 16 did.

It wasn't really Tulane coming. It was Louisville leaving--on top of Notre Dame, West Virginia, Syracuse and Pitt leaving. It's not like there was anybody in FBS better than Tulane you guys could have invited to keep us around.

Ugh..Tulane.. I think they should consider a mascot change...Tulane Trolls sounds about right to me. Is it too late to uninvite a team from joining?

What better conference would want Cincy. It is basically a inner city regional commuter school with terrible academics and football program. It's basketball program like Memphis has fallen of the map the last years with poor coaching and recruiting.

...if you think that such a post is actually representative of the fanbase at large, then I do not know what to tell you. I've already said my piece about it in the thread.
If I were Tulane's president, I would have personally visited the C7 and made an appeal to them. Unfortunately, our leadership thinks that they're better than what they are - and I can't wait for the new President to take office.

Don't be too down on them. That particular poster is usually hateful. They are generally a nice bunch.

I won't hold it against all you guys, but I haven't had too many positive run-ins with Tulane fans. I'm hoping they are the minority and more are like you Olive. And Tulane wasn't really what made the C7 go running. It was a combination of many other factors. In the long run, I think it was in everyone's best interest (football schools and the C7) for them to break off.

I would not necessarily have been against the idea of Cowen visiting the C7, but we all need to be very clear that Tulane is not the reason the C7 left, and there is no particular reason to think that a visit from Cowen would've caused the C7 to stay. If anything, such a visit could have easily backfired if he had gone to Georgetown/Marquette/etc., and then the C7 says something like "Yeah, we appreciate the efforts of Dr. Cowen but for the time being we feel like our best interests lie elsewhere"-blah-blah. If all that had happened, the whole "Tulane-caused-the-BE-to-break-up" mythology would have been even more deeply ingrained into the media's narrative then it already is.
There are days when I hate my alma mater, too, but the way Tulane handled the realignment negotiations in November 2012 (and since) didn't give any added reason to do so.

I don't really care because it's basketball but also I'm categorically opposed to adding anyone new that won't immediately add more money to our already weak tv payout.

VCU and WSU would be revenue positive addition since they would get NCAA bids at least 1 out of 5 years. Getting to the sweet 16 or higher would be gravy. Then our next tv contract should get a little juice by adding another market.

If fgcu was a legit team and not a one hit wonder then maybe. WSU is equal to any AAC team in hoops.

wear it like a badge of honor.
i would rather be in a conference with tulane than any of the cheesey c7 schools
good grief not one single big east team could make the BCS this year. bunch of goofs. overated in everything northeast media creation.
the c7/big east is a zombie conference. bunch of parts have fallen off, all nasty. looks sorta like the old big east, not quite dead out there lurking around somewhere.
Tulane is too good for the zombiefied big east. Outa still be in the SEC offsetting Vandy. Tulane doesnt take shite from anybody.

RE: How do you like Wichita State now?
I did want to be clear on one thing... I did bring up the Catholic 7 deciding to leave around the time Tulane got an invite, as that was the same timeframe... But I must say I am a Tulane backer. Perry Clark proved long ago that you can have exciting and winning basketball in NOLA and with football moving to its own facility, good things are certainly possible.
Seton Hall, DePaul, Providence.. Those types of Universities have no business thumbing their noses at TU. Academically, Athletic, for any reason..
Oh, and back On-Topic to the Thread Title, if no one from this Conference makes the Final Four, I hope the Shockers win the whole damn thing.. A Final Four of WSU, San Diego State, Creighton and whomever else gets through would be lovely.

I think the aspect of posters from new schools coming in and wanting to change the freaking conference is more a sore spot with me than the choice of Wichita State, in itself.
