He's not a JUCO transfer.

Junipero Serra HS is a private Catholic HS and has a long list of very notable alumni in the sports world and many other walks of life. Here is a list of some of the more famous athletes who are alumni..

Barry Bonds, Jim Fregosi, Gregg Jeffries, Lynn Swann, David Bakhtiari, Tom Brady.

247 says we have two three star players coming in for visits on Sat. They identified one of them as Markeyvious Adams, 6'4" WR from Greenwood SC. Adams has offers from App. St., GSU, fGSU, and Charleston Southern. I hope Baning is the other visitor.

Second one could be one of Grant Burguillos from Louisiana or Salem (VA) prospect Zachariah Hoyt pure speculation

I am not a VIP member so I'm not sure of the content. It may reference that Mr. Adams is looking to visit or planning to visit two schools.

Recruiting news has been under the radar at times this year. Was wondering if anyone has info about visitors this weekend. I know we are entertaining Markeyvious Adams and there is a little buzz that we may have a few recruits visiting Saturday and Sunday. Has anyone heard any other names.......?

The two DBs from UAB are Godsends for us, and of course have already performed well at the FBS level.

The two kids from Fork Union look to have a lot of potential.

The most intriguing player to me in this list is JUCO QB Joey Verhaegh.
He is a big strong kid that can stand in the pocket. He has a big arm and throws lasers, even when scrambling. He is quick laterally, will run vertically when necessary, and is hard to tackle.

Height 6'4"
Weight 220lbs
40yd Dash 4.70
Shuttle 4.15
Vertical Leap 35.5"
Bench Press 235lbs
Squat 350lbs

The above are close to the top of NFL numbers for a classic pro style QB; which he is.

This may sound like blasphemy, but I think he actually challenges Shuler for the starting job.

Joey Verhaegh has twitted several times about his excitement to challenge for the starting QB position next year. Competition will be good. I'm not saying this will happen, but potentially we could see a new philosophy and use both in the game depending on their strengths and the needs of a particular offensive play(s).

Physically he compares with the top drop back QBs already in the NFL. Compare his numbers with combine numbers for non running QBs for the past few years.

(Hehe look at Aaron Rogers in 2005)

Then go look at his many videos, knowing that they are highlight reels, just like all the others on the internet.

This guy is physically a true top FBS caliber athlete. If he can translate this to our system..............03-thumbsup

RE: 2015 Old Dominion Football Recruiting Den
I have been fairly vocal about Bentley and how we will not have a significant drop off at quarterback play despite losing Heinicke when Bentley takes over this year. But Saturday morning I went back to review Verhaegh's Hudl highlights, and came away with a slightly different take. I now believe that Verhaegh can and clearly will compete strongly for the starting job. That is a good thing, as it will likely elevate the performances of both players. It is amazing how two so very different athletes can bring so much to the table at the QB position.

One thing I did note while watching Verhaegh was that there was a significant lack of highlights of long-ball throws. In fact, the only one I remember was a completion, but it was somewhat under-thrown. If he had hit him in stride, it would have been a sure TD. The lack of highlights of that type of throw leads me to wonder about his long-ball accuracy, and to believe that is an area where Bentley will have the advantage.

My instincts tell me Bentley will win the competition, but I also have to believe that it is not a given and the competition will be real and a close call. We may even have a QB controversy.

Interestingly, whoever becomes the starter will certainly color the offensive scheme we use. I can't wait to see the spring game.
