wrong.....assets worth over 140,000,000
you have to remember that not all dollars under management are endowment dollars
they could be under management until spent on a large project or just because they are holding the money like endowment dollars until state funding picks up and they feel comfortable spending those dollars
Exactly.
US News is the squad who came up with the $112.
US News vs Dun and Bradstreet? One a news organization and we all know how well our news is vetted. The other the premier reporting agency for credit worthiness of business. What you say?
Years ago my partner and I had to be out of the business for a half day. Upon our return my high school employee who was tending the business for me advised me that Dun & Bradstreet had asked questions about the business. He advised he was a part time employee who knew nothing about the business end of the business.
I contacted D & B because I wanted my very credit worthy business to be listed. They advised me that in fact our rating was complete as they had spoken to the manager the day prior. When I advised them they spoken to a part time high schooler it went silent.
The university lists it's assets under management at 144 million, and while some will say it might mean this or it might mean that, it means it is listed as foundation assets, and the foundation and is 144 million dollars of assets as of June 30,2012.
I have zero confidence in US News and World.
Many universities also include the physical plant in their endowment totals. LSU does this and it exacerbates the value of the endowment. We do not include the campus value in our endowment. I wish we did because we have over $300 million in completed construction over the past 5 years.

This is the link to the document I referenced earlier. In the 2013 philanthropy report under the "Passion for Growth" page with John Tolson, it references he is Emeritus member of the Foundation Board of Trustees, it lists the assets at over $160M today.

GaSou has a ways to go but we have only been a university since the 90's. Most of our growth has happened in the last two decades mainly the last ten years. We are adding doctoral degrees but until the Board of Regents stops stunting the our academic growth it might be awhile till it gets to a respectable level.

I corrected that probably as you were typing
I was aware of that, but for some reason searching "Alabama" on the page only gave the one
searching "South Alabama" after I saw the numbers resulted in finding both listings and the changed numbers

RE: latest endowment numbers
Georgia Southern is still in endowment purgatory in the state of Georgia. We get twice what the comprehensive universities get in terms of endowment but because we don’t have a law school or a medical school we get pennies compared to what the other research schools get. I expect our endowment to change significantly once they get the Armstrong campuses fully integrated into GS.

Louisiana's endowment is more than twice the combined endowment of ULM and LA Tech.

RE: latest endowment numbers
Pardon my ignorance, but is Louisiana's endowment/operating budget etc. tied to the oil market in anyway? Just wondering what impacts your university sees when the bottom drops out or the price skyrockets /barrel.
PSA- If you say budget, budget, budget three times it will summon WKUYG and his spreadsheets....and nobody wants that.

One thing that makes USA's endowment slightly different from other schools is that the endowment also supports a comprehensive medical school, which can be quite expensive. I'm sure USA's numbers are going to still be far and away tops in the league, but it might be interesting to see what funds are available for what purposes.
USA's has two foundations. One is directly controlled by the school. The other is controlled by an independent board but can only be used for the benefit of the school.
There was a huge fight over the two foundations as well, with all kind of accusations going on. Things seem calm now.
So, yes, USA's real endowment number is around 550 million, but like all endowment funds, it doesn't mean that all of its a general or discretionary endowment fund.
