I had known in the past that either UAB or USA had two listings, but the search feature on that particular adobe page sucks now (the old one with the binocs on the side that returned all the results was better) and did not show me both of those results

Lamar is also one of the few that has two listings as well

Texas A&M used to have two I believe, but they combined them a few years back for a single listing

If Lamar really has a combined $90M Endowment and have fund raised as well as they have, who the hell is running the athletics department and why haven't I seen anything major come from East Texas? Imagine where y'all would be with a Lynn Hickey type

1. the vast majority of that endowment would be earmarked for anything but athletics

2. a 90 million dollar endowment would pay out 4.5 million per year at the max and even if you devoted 100% of that to athletics (which would be highly foolish and not even possible considering most if not all of it would be earmarked for other things) that is still very little money compared to playing in a division where 30+ million dollar athletics budgets are in the lower 25% of overall budgets in that division

3. they only restarted their football program a few years ago and they are a small university in a small metro area that is in the far corner of a large state with numerous other sports options so it will be extremely difficult for them to draw enough fans to actually support a D1-A program successfully long term

they have highly respected engineering and nursing programs both of which cost a lot of money to run (and account for a large part of that endowment) so it is not like they are just wasting the money on nothing instead of wasting it trying to compete at the bottom rung of D1-A

The last I heard from those that attend recent donations was around $130 Million.

Looking at the 2013 promotional material, they have the estimate at 160M.

for whatever reason only the LSU System Foundation was listed out of all the Louisiana public universities

LaTech, ULM, Louisiana and others were not listed

the UT System schools in Texas are not listed because they are all under the UT System listing at the top same with the A&M schools, but for Louisiana thee was just that single listing and of course most of the other public universities are not in the LSU System

I'm not in any way implying they can or should use endowment funds for athletics, but I think the Lamar posters have a point that there is a lot of money in the area and with the right leadership, a lot can happen. I don't care that they only restarted their football program a few years back. I don't care they are in a small metro in a large state (we are the sun belt after all - we win on the field, not in markets). If they have the leadership in place and the resources, then we can talk membership. But I'm not still not convinced they have those

RE: latest endowment numbers
@UcanUseaMint

In general the foundation dollars should not go to athletics, but at UL the RCAF is under the UL Foundation, but the funds are gotten from a separate fund raising group.

Foundations have to be well policed or funny things can happen. At UNO a few years ago the university president got a substantial portion of his daughters wedding paid for by their foundation. His logic was that he would not have had to invite many people that he did if he was not the president, nor would it had to be so opulent as a private person, thus the use of foundation money was in his eyes justified. Most money given to the UL foundation have specific goals attached to them and are used for just those things.

Express, do you have any idea how much is in the RCAF fund now? (I am not talking about temporary project funding, but endowed gifts)

I know it is only a few years old, but there were some pretty big increases in contributions in the last couple of years.

No idea about amounts, but probably not a lot. most of the money raised is used annually.

WSJ article a few months back said Stanford's Athletic is completely funded by their endowment's income. impressive.

you have to remember that not all dollars under management are endowment dollars

they could be under management until spent on a large project or just because they are holding the money like endowment dollars until state funding picks up and they feel comfortable spending those dollars

Exactly.

US News is the squad who came up with the $112.

US News vs Dun and Bradstreet? One a news organization and we all know how well our news is vetted. The other the premier reporting agency for credit worthiness of business. What you say?

Years ago my partner and I had to be out of the business for a half day. Upon our return my high school employee who was tending the business for me advised me that Dun & Bradstreet had asked questions about the business. He advised he was a part time employee who knew nothing about the business end of the business.

I contacted D & B because I wanted my very credit worthy business to be listed. They advised me that in fact our rating was complete as they had spoken to the manager the day prior. When I advised them they spoken to a part time high schooler it went silent.

The university lists it's assets under management at 144 million, and while some will say it might mean this or it might mean that, it means it is listed as foundation assets, and the foundation and is 144 million dollars of assets as of June 30,2012.

I have zero confidence in US News and World.

OP had it unlisted and US News had the number.
