They are a low-scoring team. They average 65.5 ppg, which is 305th in the nation. They've been right on that pace for conference play, even though it included 81 points against ECU and 52 against FIU. (They still beat FIU by 16, lol.) I'll try to post the adjusted tempo stats at some point to see how efficient their offense is.
I would love to hear a scouting report from an ODU fan.
So if the game is at their place, we are going to get smoked like a pork shoulder on the 4th of July ?
10 other teams didn't have a problem spanking on the road

I still think (hope?) the UNT game is a bit of an anomaly with CJ's foul trouble combined with poor shooting from damn near everyone. We're not going to become a great shooting team this season, but we aren't as bad as we showed that game either. I'm guessing ODU is a little better than UNT or UTSA, so I'm glad we get them at home.

Most every team in college basketball has a bad away game like this. It just is what it is. We just need to keep plugging. One would hope Jordan's shot comes around and that would really make us dangerous.

Our 7 footer, Larson really never plays in big games. Duck if Richard Ross gets the ball on a breakaway or underneath. He is a 7 foot high jumper. If you really want to read about ODU go to odubleedblue. It is the place for ODU basketball and football information.

RE: Old Dominion
Thanks for letting me know about Larson. I hadn't checked that closely. It looks like Fahro and Tosin will have a 3-inch advantage over everyone that ODU will throw out there. I tried to find another team that had a similar situation. FAU has a 6-9 center who was 6 of 11 for 15 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks against ODU in 36 minutes with only 2 fouls and 2 turnovers. I think Foz could get a similar or better statline.
FAU did lose that game, but they were basically playing 4 against 5 on offense. They had a guy who played 33 minutes and was 0-1 from the field, 0-2 on free throws, and had 0 assists.

VCU has a pretty tall physical front. It would help if you can get Ross and Taylor in foul trouble because not much depth after that. However, Ross doesn't play like he is 6'6" and Taylor has been coming on. I predict when it comes to the front line the foul trouble will be the key.

RE: Old Dominion
Of the two games for ODU this week, at UAB and MTSU I actually think is the better matchup for the Monarchs.
ODU has outrebounded nearly all of their opponents, even USM on Saturday who are right there with the Blazers in terms of rebounding. ODU's achilles heel has been turnovers, when they turn it over more than 18 percent of the time they are 1-9, less than that 7-1. UAB only forces a turnover on 12 percent of their defensive possession on the season. What's up with that, by far the worst in the league.
ODU defends the interior extremely well for their size but can give open looks at the perimeter from guards digging down to help.
In short, I expect ODU to defend and rebound well enough to make this a game and if UAB does not turn ODU over then I think the Monarchs can win.

Look up how many times we turn it over. I think you'll like that number a lot.

I understand why the Blazers rebound so well, it's almost as if you have to. ODU will hang on the boards but the pace may get to them. Only 8 deep and only 3 deep on the front line. A frenetic pace with the ball constantly flying off the glass may cause ODU foul issues.

Also we get lots of offensive rebounding opportunities because our FG% is not good.

ODU had a team like that 2 years ago. Led the nation in rebounding margin but was horrible from the field. They ran their offense so that they knew exactly where the missed shots would be and rebounded nearly half of them on the season.

For the season...
UAB's defense is terrible in causing turnovers - 13.3% of opponents' possessions or 349th in the country. Only Virginia Tech and Quinnipiac are worse.
However, UAB can still be a good defensive team restricting the opponents' effective field goal percentage to 45.7%, or 52nd best in the country. Arizona is #1 at 41.3%.
I'm expecting a good game. It appears ODU's biggest weaknesses are size and free throw shooting. Free throw shooting can vary significantly on any given night.

Is there any correlation between UAB and Quinnipiac's rebounding prowess and poor rate of forcing turnovers? Seems odd that two teams would be at the top and bottom of two seemingly incongruous statistics.
