Catching up..... Yes JR, I remember the Duck and Cover drills well.
Later, I wondered if any of our teachers realized that if we were anywhere near a nuclear blast, those little desks wouldn't provide much protection!
I don't remember who the first crush was, but I suspect it may have been Ann Margaret from an old Elvis movie. I know my little brother's was Patty Duke, since he would kiss the TV screen when the show would come on. Ha!
I know I'm old. I remember going to see a double header between the New York Yankees and the
Kansas City Athletics. Saw Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Whitey Ford and the rest. A couple of years later, we went to see the Beatles at Busch Memorial Stadium in St. Louis, where we lived at the time and where we often would go to Cardinal games to watch Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Curt Flood, Orlando Cepeda, Steve Carlton, Tim McCarver, Roger Maris again, and the rest. I'm old enough to remember watching the Game of the Week broadcast by Dizzy Dean and PeeWee Reese, sponsored by Falstaff and during the NFL season, getting one game a week on TV. I could go on, but suffice it to say, I know that I'm old because I don't recognize that ancient guy looking back at me in the mirror every morning.
