Marshall has great fans support, we're all envious....now give it a rest.
They are now what they described ECU fans as that some of them say they hate haha!
At least ECU has attendance numbers to actually brag about. Marshall, not so much. Nothing wrong with a 25k avg in this conference but it sure isn't something to rave about, especially in a 9 win season.
Odd thing to me is that before all this bitching and moaning about the site of the champ game and now the silly, baseless attendance smack, I really liked Marshall athletics. Some of these fans are taking some of the shine off.
Unfortunately, the rational ones are being ignored when they tell the crazy ones to calm down.
I understand that. Also, I know that when things do die down, and they always do, things will be pretty much back to normal and interest in the game itself will supplant all the crap.

RE: Final Attendance Numbers (Season Average)
from a Rice board thread:

This.
I think, based upon the showing last year at the Armed Forces Bowl in Dallas, that we are not an unattractive option to the HOD. Perhaps they are waiting to see how things play out and how well we perform/draw at the CUSA championship.
How many fans did we take to the Armed Forces Bowl? On television it looked like a small group, maybe 4k?
Attendance was reported as 40,000.
I couldn't imagine that Rice fans were only 10% of that. We may have only sold 4,000 tickets through Rice, but I wouldn't be surprised if many Rice fans bought tickets from another source.
Heard on the radio (in Memphis) Steve Earhardt, Mr. Liberty Bowl, say that Rice took more fans to their bowl game last year than any other CUSA team - 8000. Hopefully we can repeat or surpass that number regardless of where we go (ideally Memphis).
Anyone who says Rice doesn't have/bring fans when games are big or to bowl games has not been paying attention to reality recently.

UTSA isn't lol
Neither is UTEP. Hell, if either UTSA or UTEP had a 9 win season the attendance avg would be north of 40k. Marshall with 25k for a 9 win season should just be happy with their record because they have no bragging rights on attendance.
What a lot of you all don't seem to understand is that, coming into this season there were a large number of Herd fans just waiting to jump ship. Doc was 17-20 coming into this season, and those same fans were not willing to let him off the hook until he beat someone worth talking about. Some fans were excited after we beat Miami (OH) really bad, but then quickly realized that they suck. Gardner-Webb isn't going to help the matter either. His first opportunity to get everyone back was @ Ohio and you all know how that worked out. He then had a shot the next week @VT, but after we lost many were thinking we were going right back to hovering around 6-6 again. Beating UTSA doesn't do anything because no one has ever heard of them even if they went on to have a decent season. Then came the FAU game when they were still considered to suck and we beat them with a last second FG. He lost some fans after a win!!! Then came the horrendous defense at MTSU, more fans jump ship. Then we get a stretch of UAB, FIU, Tulsa, and So. Miss all teams with horrible records. No one cared if we beat those teams because it was expected. It took 12 games for us to finally beat a team that our fans had heard of and that didn't suck. If we beat Ohio, VT, or MTSU the attendance is a lot better. But since the fans had to wait all season for Doc to get a quality win he didn't win them back until last week. And to be honest if we lose to Rice and our bowl game, IMO we will be back to square one. 9-5 will not be looked at as successful with the schedule we had. Our fans expect 11-3 amd IF we do that even with a ****** schedule next season we should see better attendance, closer to 28-30k avg.

What are those games? I don't think the first one is Tulane 2013, because I was there at the end after it got dark, and the game ended with Rice at the Tulane goal line. The second one is an orange opponent. UTEP 2013? Your photo doesn't really show a crowd, though. Is the last one Florida Atlantic 2013? Our attendance for that game was not good; I think it was only 14,000 or so.

RE: Final Attendance Numbers (Season Average)
I thought I had already posted this, but maybe not.
"Charlotte 49ers football ranked 10th in average attendance (15,541) and 11th in overall attendance (93,244) among FCS Football schools in 2013."
Our stadium seats 15,300.

I don't know how much longer I can take "wait to we get lights at our stadium" or we can get 15,000 next year.
