Lady Techster's schedule came out today
RUSTON - Four games against Southeastern Conference opponents, seven games against in-state schools and its first run through Conference USA highlight the 2013-14 women's basketball schedule for Louisiana Tech, released on Wednesday.
Head coach Teresa Weatherspoon and Co. will also play 13 games against teams that participated in the postseason last year, including six NCAA qualifiers, six WNIT participants and the Women's Basketball Invitational runner-up.
The Lady Techsters marquee match-ups against AQ programs include starting the season on the road at South Carolina on Nov. 10 and then traveling to face ACC foe Virginia Nov. 16. Tech then opens its home schedule with a Nov. 23 afternoon tipoff against LSU, a team that advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament a year ago. Tech also faces Ole Miss Dec. 4 in Oxford and Texas A&M Dec. 28 in College Station.
In addition to its contest against LSU, other in-state games pepper the non-conference schedule, including home games against New Orleans (Nov. 29), UL-Lafayette (Dec. 7) and Northwestern State (Dec. 11) and road contests against Nicholls State (Dec. 2) and McNeese State (Dec. 17).
Tech also hosts two former Sun Belt foes in Arkansas State (Nov. 25) and UALR (Dec. 20).
During its first year as a member of C-USA, the Lady Techsters will play their inaugural league game on Jan. 8 when they host Southern Miss at the Thomas Assembly Center. Tech also hosts Middle Tennessee (Jan. 11), Florida Atlantic (Jan. 22), UTSA (Feb. 1), Charlotte (Feb. 12), UAB (Feb. 15), Rice (Feb. 22) and FIU (March 5).
Tech's road conference tilts include Rice (Jan. 15), East Carolina (Jan. 18), Tulane (Jan. 25), UTEP (Feb. 5), Marshall (Feb. 8), Tulsa (Feb. 19), Old Dominion (Feb. 26) and North Texas (March 1).
Home tipoff times have been altered this year with weekday games starting at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday games starting at 6 p.m. The exceptions to this are doubleheaders with the men. The one weekday doubleheader set for Dec. 11 when both the Lady Techsters and Bulldogs host Northwestern State will start at 6 p.m. while the three Saturday doubleheaders with the men will start at 5 p.m.
