because Fresno is good. A good QB (as do we of course), but the key being NFL prototype QB that BTW is the little bro of an NFL QB. They're going to get a little extra love for that, but that's also a good team. I have no problem being ranked right behind them. It will all play itself out, nothing to worry about.

MWC also considered by many as the elite Non-AQ conference.

BG, Balls, CMU, and Akron losing very winnable games yesterday also does not help our cause.

I don't think we should really be arguing for being higher than certain teams with our performance yesterday

RE: Week 3 poll watching
I just don't see anyone giving good reasons why they should be so far ahead of us?

We have done far more than them in the past to warrant more respect and they haven't done anything this season to warrant it that we haven't done.

They beat a BCS team at home by 1. We beat one on the road by 3. They beat a 1-AA team at home. We beat what is essentially a 1-AA team far away on the road. I think our schedule has been tougher than their's and neither is anything to brag about.

Because the polls are intended to measure this year, not what NIU or Fresno has done in the past few years, which is irrelevant (or should be). Beyond that, some people think they're better. Sometimes that's all there is to it.

I just talked about this year too. They haven't done anything more impressive than us THIS YEAR.

The only thing that i'm hearing that is why they are getting more respect than us is people "think" they are better than us, which is basically saying that teams continue to receive votes on what people think and not one what they have done.

Huskies murdered in the coaches poll which I understand given last week's game, but to see MSU skyrocket to 24, with their signature win being WMU, tough to swallow.

MSU did what they were supposed to do - beat Youngstown by 40.

Huskies were favored by 30 and eeked out a win.

You said this in your post:
"We have done far more than them in the past to warrant more respect..."

That's what I was addressing.

As far as this year is concerned, teams have played 2-3 games, so trying to assess resumes is pointless. At this point, yes, people are going to rank teams based on what they think in the absence of significant data. It's also why polls shouldn't start until after like Week 8, when there have been enough games played that at least some things have sorted themselves out.

And ranking teams is hard anyway because there really isn't that much data to go off of, and most of it is skewed by completely different schedule strengths and locations of games. Truthfully, once you get past the elite of the elite teams, I have no idea how you tell who the 18th best team is and who the 24th best team is. It's a total crapshoot, and statistically they're virtually identical. IIRC, studies have shown that the middle 80 football teams, on any given Saturday, are virtually indistinguishable from one another.

Naperville North would have beaten Youngstown by 25 though. MSU has to be the worst ranked team in the history of polling. They have no offense at all.

I don't suppose they travelled 1800 miles to do it though.

I think we're in pretty good company with the number of votes we got.

I didn't realize they were playing those two teams. They are going to get crushed so i guess we don't need to worry about them afterall.

Isn't UCF in the American Athletic Conference? They are basically a BCS team then, correct? So as far as an undefeated NIU team possibly going to another BCS bowl, it wouldn't matter if UCF is ranked ahead of NIU.

NIU doesnt belong in the top 25 right now, but I can say with certainty that NIU is better than MSU

We don't have to worry about UCF. They are in the AAC so, if they go undefeated (they won't), they will get an automatic bid (this year). Louisville needs to worry about them, not NIU.

Regarding a BCS bid (even though the Idaho game shows the HUSKIES are a long way from being undefeated), we only need to worry about Fresno State, Texas State and I guess Navy.

Um, no. How many years in the past has ND been in the top 25 based only on their name?

RE: Week 3 poll watching
Navy is an independent so they're out of the BCS picture unless they get an at large.

Texas State, Fresno and NIU are the only remaining non-AQ conference undefeateds left. Texas State hasn't played anyone yet and their next 2 games are vs Texas Tech and Wyoming, so I wouldn't worry about them. Even if they went undefeated they'd probably be behind an undefeated NIU.

I'd say if NIU went undefeated (a big IF of course), the two teams you need to worry about are an undefeated Fresno and a 1-loss Boise. One of those two are going to be eliminated this Friday, and hopefully it's Fresno because I think they've got the easier schedule from here on out (assuming @Colorado isn't rescheduled).

The way I understand it Navy could not qualify as a Non-AQ qualifier because they would not be a conference champion. They could qualify as an at large team if they were ranked 14 or higher but it wouldn't be an automatic bid and I think if another non-AQ qualified (even ranked at 16) then they would not qualify.

TX St has a big game this week vs TX Tech
Fresno vs Boise St this week too.
