Idiotic CUSA policy
Read that in CUSA, you can't have the student section directly behind the visiting team, which has resulted in us putting "Young Alumni" in this instead which is mindbogglingly stupid. Is this a true CUSA rule? How is it in your stadiums?

While we don't have the biggest crowd, we were known for a vicious and brutal student section in regards to heckling and trash talk. This is kind of ******.

the WAC had that rule for many years because Fresno fans threw batteries at visiting players

CUSA has that rule because of the Charlotte-Cincy games.

WOW...and WKU fans were chided for throwing a few Mars Bars at UAB players back in the 80's. Were those batteries truck batteries or AA batteries? 04-cheers ... on second thought, since that was California, they were probably Prius batteries.

Our student section isn't RIGHT behind the visitors, but anyone with a good arm could reach the opposing team with any weighted object.

That's shameful. I don't know if you've ever been hit by a battery, but it HURTS.

I had someone launch a AA into my ribs when I was in middle school. I thought it broke a rib. It was bruised for weeks.

Why is it not something to be proud of?

Not like we're throwing batteries and we're not Texas Tech.

WKU got ripped a new one by our section after their D-coordinator had 3 DWIs in the span of like 2 weeks.

I had always heard this was the case as well. I was at several of those games in the early 2000's when play would be stopped and Coach Lutz would grab a microphone and address the crowd. A few bad apples....
03-banghead

...but man, that was a heated rivalry on our end. Good times! (Happy to be back in CUSA!)

I'm sure that's what the NT fans spread around to get them riled up but the truth was it was his third DWI in 21 years. Once when he was a young man, another in 2003 and then the 3rd in Baton Rouge in 2011. ......Not attempting to defend his actions but just clarifying he wasn't at WKU during his first 2 DWI's and they were many years before.

If you want opposing fans to travel to your stadium in efforts to fill it, it's probably not a good thing.

RE: Idiotic CUSA policy
That is a ridicules rule. Why do they think students are the only ones to have the ability to throw something at the players.

Doesn't affect us for basketball but does for Football. Like ToT said, Almost all of the lower level seating behind the visitor is student seating. There are only 23 rows in the lower section. So I guess that completely displaces the students

Men's Basketball
Quote:Buffer Zone. No students are permitted to sit in the first six rows directly behind the visiting team's bench and that
additional security is added to this area. The space directly behind the visitors' bench is defined as the length of the
seats that are in place for the visiting team. Further, each institution is required to communicate, in writing, with the
ticket holders in those rows to inform them of acceptable behavior.

Football
Quote:Student Seating. Host institutions shall refrain from seating students in the first 15 rows behind the visiting team area between
the 25-yard lines.

This is from the 11-12 C-USA Handbook, so it may have changed.

Univ of Louisiana-Lafayette was notorious for heckling both players and fans of opposing teams. To the point of not even watching the game. I always thought of those ULL fans as LSU wannebe fans.

I'd like to be good enough that it doesn't matter if away people do or not. Furthermore, they sit far away.

Anyway, frankly, the stadiums are too small at these places for this to actually happen. They'll have to redo the student section at the Super Pit, too.

Unlikely our students follow the "Young Alumni" section.

I heckle, and yeah, a lot of the fun might be taken away if it's harder to heckle.

I believe you answered your own question. How can a conference openly promote sportsmanship and fair play while at the same time give the appearance of condoning abuse of visiting players from the home team student section?

I'm guessing not a single greenie student would have been so harsh and personal about their comments if the players weren't required to just sit there and take it.

I'm not dissing on the greens other than it was you who posted the comments......I imagine all schools, including SOUTHERN MISS, would have students show their ass to the opposing teams in a manner that could tend toward assault if allowed to do so.

No, but it distracts them and creates a homefield advantage. Which is why you do it. You get into their head. There's nothing like when the student section abuses one player all game and then he makes a HUGE mistake and the entire section goes..."#8 YOU LET THE WHOLE TEAM DOWN!"

It works. We suck and attendance is spotty but we have a 7-4 record at home the last two years despite winning 9 games total the last two years.

Good. I hate it when people heckle. I tell our own fans that too. It makes the heckler look like an ass. I suppose that's probably because it pretty much takes an ass to heckle kids/coaches who are fully expected to not respond in any manner.

Only a real putz of a guy heckles people, especially people who he knows have zero opportunity to respond.
