So it is stupid, but i understand at the same time. Students just need to show up in droves and make a lot of noise. No time for throwing things at the players, thats bad. Verbal? ok. Physical? Not ok.
If a school has an issue with physicality, punish that school by sanctioning a move of their student section. Schools that can heckle without doing something stupid should get to put their students where they want.
I completely agree with you, i mean from most of the seats a water bottle can be thrown pretty far, not just behind the section.
I guess we need to build bullpens for football also down the sidelines.
7-4 at Apogee. Out of all the teams to know, it'd be WKU considering your coach whined and complained over my sign about the D coordinator's DWI & mug shot. And our band making fun of your name & mascot. But no way would WKU be on any ferocious fan list. 11K attendance for a winning team?
That's pathetic.
Furthermore I could care less what an inbred thinks of us.

Heckling didn't work too well before the new stadium?

WOW...and WKU fans were chided for throwing a few Mars Bars at UAB players back in the 80's. Were those batteries truck batteries or AA batteries? ... on second thought, since that was California, they were probably Prius batteries.

Can't help that no one cares about the opponent
But really, everyone thought the season was over with 4 out of the previous 5 being losses including a loss at home to FAU. And while you want to talk about attendance we had 2 games higher than every game you had.
Also remember WKU was one of the 4 you lost at home in that 7-4 you keep bringing up.
But yeah, when a team is not winning then it is hard for the fan base to be seen as a "threat"... WKU was not winning for a long time and even when we started back, they were road wins for a while. We have been increasing attendance every year since joining FBS. We have a ways to go still, but moving in a positive direction.
Back to topic, this idea that only students could be the ones to throw objects on on the field is crazy. It's not like it isn't against the rules to throw objects on the field. Make sure there is ample security around the visiting team and deal with anyone who throws items on the field. If a school proves to have a constant issue it then take action on them. Don't punish all schools when they may be cheering properly. A loud student body makes NCAA sports that much better.

This was before my day, but Mars Bars had just came out. As a promo, they passed them out at diddle for WKU vs UAB. A terrible call:

The rest is history.

I'm not if this is something to brag about really....pretty strong adjectives you're using.
Why is it not something to be proud of?
Not like we're throwing batteries and we're not Texas Tech.
WKU got ripped a new one by our section after their D-coordinator had 3 DWIs in the span of like 2 weeks.
Truthfully, as a coach, I would have to say I wouldn't want you and anyone like you close to the playing field. I remember the first time USM played Tulane and the game ended on a controversial field goal, the USM were so stirred up that they had to have police escort them away and the tension was so high that years later in the Sports Admin and Coaching Dept., the teacher I had used it as one of few times he was embarrassed by the fans of USM. I was there as well and it ruined the game for me after what had been a very exciting and well played game. Nobody with a sense of sportsmanship should appreciate or condone such stupidity from the fans.

Schools have student sections, and usually put those student sections near opposing teams for a reason. EVERYONE does this.
Some people may pretend to not want us there. You say that we are rude and make you uncomfortable, but deep down you want us there, you need us there. We are the one who protect the home court, we are the home court.

That's the truth.
PS: Read that in your best Col. Jessup voice.
Actually you have distorted the real desire of a vocal and involved cheering section. It is not to inflict physical harm on the other players (or accidently on your own players) but to make it harder for them to communicate through the noise. At USM when we played Tennessee in their stadium and the game was close, the noise level shook the stadium and rattled the thinking of USM players. They didn't throw stuff or make us scared of being hurt by the fans, but they did worse, they took our communication away and got our brains less involved. In fact, throwing stuff often just fires up a team more than anything, as we found out at Ole Miss when I was an USM student. The players found out about our bombardment of glass bottles by the Ole Miss Students, and it made them mad in a game they had been lackluster in their play. If they had found out a bit earlier, it would have cost the Rebels a win, but fortunately the Eagles had sleep walked long enough that they just closed it to a smaller margin of loss. I have coached and I always got more determined to win against stupid fans who thought such actions were great. It is stupid and just shows the offending fans lack knowledge of the game and sportsmanship and hurts the school more than anything.
Dumb policy. Our basketball arena looks very dumb when the entire bottom bowl is filled butt to butt with students yet there is an empty "visitors section" behind the opposing team.

Neither of us are advocating throwing ****. We both said that we would not condone those actions.

We have rich folks sitting behind the teams, only 2-3 rows of visitors.
