I'm with you, actually. I think we use this game as a way to work through some kinks in the new offense. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 28-7 or 28-14 game that isn't as close as that.

And I'm not trying to be pessimistic or anything. I'd love to see our first team get up 21-0, 28-0 by the end of the first half or early second half. Once the game is "in-hand", get Birdsong and DQ out of there and let's see what else we have on offense. If the answer is "nothing", then so be it. No point in losing anyone important.

That's why I said Dejor with a pair of TDs too. Scott will get his 100 and 2 TD, then bring in the backup for another 90+ and 2 TD.

I sincerely hope this game is better than the one we had w/ CCSU 2 years ago. That one was frightening, plus I remember being pretty ticked off at the end for such a poor showing.

I think we start slow, but we find a rhythm in the 2nd quarter. Birdsong has a marginal stat line with 1 TD and 1 INT, but he manages the game well. DQ gets 2 TD's and the defense holds CCSU until trash time at the end.

This is pretty much where I am. Score is closer than the game, we get up early and shut the play book, shorten the game.

I think it'll take us a while to get the kinks out in a live game situation. The pro-style offense begins to gel with a DQ rushing TD late in the 2nd quarter. Dukes just too much in the second half and Cent's kids get a trash time TD late.

Today I saw a homeless person on 28th Street wearing a JMU DUKES t-shirt. I gave him $3. Therefore:

The refs allowed them to score a touchdown after the game was over last time, and the score was 9 to 14 and it should have been 3 to 14.

RE: Cent. Connecticut St. @ JMU predictions
In the first half, there's some obvious, ugly kinks to work out. There's a few plays where we're shaking our heads. Drives die out, but we manage to score field goals because we have a decent kicking game. Our defense is stout enough to keep CCSU out of the end zone, except for the one time we give them great field position off an INT that occurs because of a misunderstood route, and more importantly, even though the Blue Devils can move the ball, the defense keeps them far enough away that they miss a field goal or two. At halftime the score is disturbingly close, say 9-7, JMU.

In the second half the uglies on both sides of the ball for the Dukes start to take their tool, but especially the OL. Birdsong has time to figure things out, and as the passing game starts to work, the running game does too. The final score is a big win, but the closeness of the score at the half gives the board members plenty to chew on for the next week.

Yup...and I recall it actually being reported as a final score both ways in different media outlets. I remember going to work the next day and saying I had never attended a game before where I was unsure of the actual final score, I just knew we won.

Oh yeah that was bizarre. My (albeit fuzzy) recollection of the reason is that at some point in the fourth quarter the scoreboard clock kept running after a play when it should have stopped. The refs then just kept the time on the field but never announced it to the booth or the crowd, which is unusual. I think MM did say in the post game PC that the refs did let the coaches know what was going on. So the final plays were valid, but it was very strange that the refs didn't clue everyone else in.

New Sagarins are out( http://sagarin.com/sports/cfsend.htm ) . Jeff says we win by 23 so I'll say 37-14 and I'll walk away guardedly optimistic that we're kicking off the rust and ironing out the wrinkles. It's what 1st game cupcakes are for. As long as our second teams get some PT, I'll be happy with that result.
