#81 ( presumably Trussville's Jamal Hundley, who I believe is a walkon) had a few good catches out there. This is the first time Ive seen him getting some action.

The defense will be better. What makes me say that? All those freshmen we threw to the wolves last year aren't freshmen any more.

It will be better... But I don't think it will be leaps and bounds better... I think we are still very weak on the d-line. This group of guys had the fewest # of sacks in the nation by a d-line last year, and by and large its the same group of guys coming back.
A healthy Watkins is going to help, no doubt, but when I say the defense is going to be better, I'm thinking better along the lines of 80th in the country instead of 109th. They aren't going to suddenly turn into the steel shield.

The good news? Our O-line is a lot better.
These same defensive linemen were cutting through our O-line like a hot knife through butter last year at this time. Before the Troy game last year I said "We either have a dynamite defensive line or this is going to be a long year." After two series you could tell that A) Our D-line couldn't get any pressure at all. and B) our O-line was a mess... It was going to be a long year.
This year? The O-line (the first string at least) has held it's own. So no matter how much better you think the D-line has gotten, the offensive line has gotten even better.

Oh, I'm not predicting the steel shield, but with the improved offense (and I think it will be better) and a thirty place jump in defense, you've got to like our chances in most of our games.

Sorry for rushing thru the thread without reading all the posts, I'm tied up with other stuff at work right now, just got back from a grueling weekend of officiating softball in Hartselle on Friday until 2 a.m. , then later on that morning in an 2-day tournament in Tunica, MS. Just got back in last night, & I am completely bummed out...All opinions embraced from those who have been to several practices/workouts, who is UAB's starting QB on August 31? Still haven't gotten my season tickets yet, either.

Hiring a top notch D-line coach should also help, along with the tweaking of the scheme to more of a 3-4.
