Ohio Tackling looks very crisp tonight.

Checking through the online ticket office, only 122 season tickets are available as of the first game day. The program is getting very close to a season ticket sellout.

Wait, why aren't you at the game?

Yes, Ohio tackling is very crisp. 21-21. 03-lmfao

...but alas, the Kittens (aka Flagship) did win!

By the way, what was the official attendance tonight at Peden...>ESPN didn't have the box score and stats when I looked a few moments ago?

Attendance was disappointing for North Texas.....24,511

http://www.ohiobobcats.com/sports/m-foot...013nt.html

Its still an "official sell out" but was not as good as last year's home opener New Mexico State game which was 25,893. Watching on TV the student section wasn't as excited as what it usually is and 75% left early. This may be partially to blame on Ohio State also playing a night game at the same time this year.

Isn't 24,511 still over capacity at Peden, Kitten?

Anything over 21,000 is over capacity at Peden Stadium really because that is how many SEATS the stadium has.

The university counted 3 sellouts last year officially.....25.9k, 25.2k and 23.8k.

Top Ohio Home Crowds By Year

1994 Miami 20,817 (Peden record crowd)
1996 Bowling Green 22,233 (Peden record crowd)
1997 Buffalo 23,336 (Peden record crowd)
1998 Marshall 21,728
1999 Northern Iowa 21,275
2000 Tennessee Tech 21,326
2001 Iowa State 24,000 (Peden record crowd)
2002 Marshall 21,110
2003 Central Florida 21,109
2004 Marshall 19,616
2005 Pittsburgh 24,545 (Peden record crowd)
2006 Buffalo 19,409
2007 Gardner Web 19,823
2008 VMI 19,938
2009 Connecticut 24,617 (Peden record crowd)
2010 Wofford 22,955
2011 Marshall 24,244
2012 New Mexico State 25,893 (Peden record crowd)
2013 North Texas 24,511

Usually the Ohio program sets a record crowd about every 3-4 years. In recent years the bar has become a lot higher and this is mostly due to efforts by the new Athletic Director (2009) to improve attendance.

Before Jim Grobe arrived in 1995, the all time record crown in Athens was only 20k+ and over 20,000 only happened 3 times in the entire history of the program (94', 92', 68').

Out of all these second record crowds I've only been present at 3 of them.

1996 Bowling Green 22,233 (Peden record crowd) (KC personal record)
2003 Central Florida 21,109
2004 Marshall 19,616

The BG game must of been tickets sold because it was pouring down rain the whole game and miserable. Whipping UCF's tail was a good one and that was the final Marshall-Ohio game when they played in the MAC.

I'm going to watch Marshall next week with the most expensive tickets I've ever paid in Peden Stadium ($47 a piece) in hopes of sitting in a new record crowd for the stadium. My guess after looking at the North Texas game attendance last night that it won't be a new stadium record but the game should with certainty be a KC record crowd.

After next week I may never go another Ohio FB game again. I'm in talks to get season tickets for another FB program next year with some members of my family closer to home. Its a full day's drive to get to Athens and its just to much to deal with on a regular basis.

The Solich years have been nice and I think its great the program has pulled together a season ticket base. Some Ohio fans think there is going to be a drop off after Solich but I don't believe that. The drop off is going to come starting next year once Tyler Tettleton and Blankenship graduate. I don't think Ohio will have the kind of team in here that will be MAC title contenders for a while after 2013.

I am going to guess that yesterday's game was tickets sold too. Granted I didn't watch the whole game, and frankly just saw the end of the game but given the game was still pretty much in doubt when I was watching and one side of the stands was only half full suggests that the actual attendance was likely not as high as reported.

RE: OHIO FB: Sold out for the season?
Here's the attendance for every Saturday home game Ohio has played since 2011

25,893- New Mexico St 9/8/12
25,542- Akron 10/13/12
24,511- N Texas 9/7/13
24,244- Marshall 9/17/11
23,673- Norfolk St 9/22/12
23,155- Gardner Webb 9/10/11
23,146- Ball St 10/15/11
20,044- Buffalo 10/6/12
17,155- Kent St 10/1/11

and yet Marshall fans were claiming that they brought 8K fans to Athens in 2011 and here they go again suggesting that they are going to bring more fans to Peden then we are used to seeing.

No doubt Marshall will bring a nice, vocal crowd, but let's not pretend its something that's unusual or special.

in fact, if you want to see who really does pack a stadium take a look at Marshall's home games during the same time frame.

34.424- VaTech 9/24/11
33,436- OHIO 9/15/12
27,509- Rice 10/15/11
27,189- Tulsa 10/6/12
25,317- W Carolina 9/8/12
24,247- SoMiss 9/10/11
22,563- UCF 10/27/12
22,456- E Carolina 11/26/11
22,041- Memphis 11/3/12
20,735- UAB 10/29/11
18,831- Houston 11/17/12

The numbers clearly show- Ohio affects Marshall's attendance more than Marshall affects Ohio's.

correct it is based on tickets sold. stadium looked pretty full with SRO in the first half but the side of the stadium facing the cameras was 2/3 students and 1/3 high school bands for band day so there were some early departures from those groups in the second half.

Wow. I am even surprised at how close the attendance numbers are between the two schools.

Marshall even has the advantage of playing in a 38,000 seat stadium with in a city of a metro population of 365,000.

Athens is 23,832 counting the students. There is not one market that small in college football that outdraws Ohio. Most schools with a market like that are drawing 8-10k in FCS.

RE: OHIO FB: Sold out for the season?
(09-05-2013 11:46 PM)DICK Wrote:  Marshall has expanded its stadium to 38,000 (27,000 vs Miami Saturday night). Both Marshall and Ohio are somewhat isolated, thus not overshadowed by neighbors, so more able to build a big fanbase when they can sustain a successful run. Plus OU has greatly increased enrollment, so if they can maintain a good run they could possibly continue to build their fanbase. It will take continued success and improvement, however.

That is one of the keys for better numbers at Ohio or now Kent State is those greater student enrollments. When you go from getting 3,000 to a football game to 8-10k students it really starts to make a difference.

For Peden Stadium, there was a big question mark for a lot of years on the amount of people this program could get down the stadium. Our record crowd until 1996 was 20,000 with the 3 highest crowds being against Miami.

Then the Grobe years came along and Ohio started racking up a bunch of crowds in the 21-23k range. It was clear that the program could do more so the new Peden in 2001 moved to 24,000 counting standing room.

Ohio hit 24,000 seats the first game of the new Peden against Iowa State and then surprassed those totals in 2005 vs. Pitt and 2009 vs. UConn. Peden was over capacity but this could then be attributed to the major opponent. Since the major opponent was rare there was no point to expanding if staying in the MAC.

Now Ohio has started to post crowds in the 24-26k range for even small time opponents. If you're getting crowds of almost 26,000 for New Mexico State and Akron what could you now draw hosting a BCS school that brings 4-5k traveling fans with them? 28-30k doesn't sound out of the question for top competition anymore.

Then you've got to say to yourself if Marshall is 38,000 and we are going to continue to play them in a 1 for 1 series with the Herd bringing a boat load of fans it only makes sense to have a capacity/stadium that is more in line with Joan Edwards standards. Peden as its presently configured cant fit more than 26,000. Average attendance will never be more than 22-23k without expanding.

I drove from Akronish for the game.... Thru Columbus.. Took me exactly 65 minutes from entering 33 in cbus from 70 to exit on E State in Athens.

65 minutes. The speed limit is mostly 60. I was doing mostly 70ish. By no means driving recklessly or faster than most traffic. Still, just 1 hr 5 minutes. That surprised me. I was assuming it would take closer to 80 minutes.

And the Nelsonville bypass still isn't done. It opens completely on Oct 1. Ohio can easily support a larger stadium if we can convince Columbus alumni to make the 1 hr (ish) drive. This is very feasible. Just keep winning!

Go ahead then.....take your Bobcat leadership from JSF.

Go out and trade your football tickets for the women's volleyball program. Organize a sit in protesting further investment in the Ohio football program.

What is your problem?

My problem is that you're an embarrassment. You make my school look bad. You make my wife look bad. You make me look bad. You make sports fans in general look bad.

Quote:Is it because you don't like some of my opinions on Ohio Athletics? I get it.

No, it's because you make things up out of thin air, never admit when you're wrong, spam the board with stupidity, and ignore reality.

Congrats.

Exactly. You don't get it. Thank you for admitting it. And the fact you're trying to claim I'm the only one with a problem with you shows just how clueless you are. But hey! Only one of us got "laughed out" (direct quote from the webmaster) of Bobcat Attack. You know, the fan board of your own team.
