I would say that the Coaches vote would carry a lot of weight most seasons but this season is a little odd with so many new teams and coaches. I wonder who Coach Ruff voted for and I would also, just out of curiosity I would like to know who voted for MT. They are my "Dark horse" for the east as I think some are underestimating them...Appears they should have a pretty good ball club this year and they get both ECU and Marshall at home.

Sorry, but with ECU leaving after this season gotta root for someone else to take the East. Thundering Herd let's keep the 2013 East title within the conference.04-cheers

No need to apologize...Your rooting preference will have no bearing on the outcome. If ECU can not win the East I hope it is USM...That would be a good story for the league and it would also be a great outcome for the league as well....CUSA really needs USM to get back into typical form as one of the "flagship" schools of the league.

well, there's 14 total votes. Tulsa got 14 of 14 so that indicates a coach can vote for their own team. I'm guessing MTSU's 1 vote was their coach.

The title should be edited to say ECU Picked to win CUSA East by SIDs. Everyone knows that most coaches do not vote in these polls. Through many self admissions they tell their SIDs to fill them out.

Yep. Some coaches want to do it but mostly this is true.

The professional magazine analysts also picked Marshall to finish in 2nd place in CUSA basketball last season. However, a season old grizzly s.o.b. such as myself, said that there was no way that Marshall would finish in 2nd place with Herrion as coach. Holiday = Herrion.

I will also remind you Marshall fans that the next time that your A.D. picks a good football coach, will be the first time that your A.D. picks a good football coach.

Marshall needs to watch out for USM, because I think that that is the battle for second place in the East.

Not trying to start smack but just curious why more people don't see MT as a dark horse or even having a shot at the east? We are returning 19 starters as well as 4 on the O-line that gave up the 2nd fewest sacks in the nation, a 3rd year starting QB, a sophomore RB that set a freshman rushing record in 8 games, and we have ECU and Marshall at home. Not to mention coming off an 8-4 record. Don't over look the Blue Raiders!

Completely different situation. We lost our PG, our best scorer had to be shifted from scorer to distributor, and our freshman sucked. There was a lot that went into that.

For football to come remotely close to that epic failure of a baskebtall season Cato would have to go down with an injury taking him out of the season and replace him with WR Davonte Allen.

Doc is nowhere near Herrion in terms of ineptness as a HC. There is not one thing you can point to as a bright spot on the basketball team. Not one thing.

In football however we had a one of the nations top 10 offenses, one of the top 5 QBs, CUSA MVP, CUSA freshman of the year, and several other offensive accolades. Where we struggled was on defense. That got fixed.

In order for football to mirror basketball we would have to win only 2-3 games.

Top passing QB in the country (Cato)....Top 10 total offense in the country......upgraded our defense with a new D coordinator and some key players........we have ECU and USM at home....

Herd wins the East. Had ECU beat in Greenville if not for our stupid D-coordinator playing prevent defense on that final drive in regulation. If we had a half-way decent defense last year we would have won 9-10 games.

I think the defense improves enough this year and we end up with 9-10 wins and the east title.

You all keep pointing to your game last year at ECU as some kind of point of reference; however the year before that game ECU and Marshall had the same type of game that came down to one play up at Marshall. In fact I think that game went to overtime too, so both offenses will score a lot.

BTW, your D-coordinator is new, so don't be expecting any kind of miracles. He will probably improve your defense just like Rick Smith will improve ECU's; but don't get carried away. In case you didn't know; Smith was the DC on that Tulane team that went undefeated in 1998 and he was the db coach on the ECU teams that won back to back titles.

Hmm, no one quoted me and you have said I was on ignore multiple times 07-coffee3

Last years records have a ton of relevancy in a preseason poll, especially when you

A. Return 19 starters
B. Return your coach

anyone that thinks otherwise is foolish. That's about all preason rankings are based on as they should be. It's a no brainer we were picked #1.

What in your infinite wisdom should we base it on if not returning starters and coaches, school colors or tidily winks? WTF knows what USM will be. They got a bunch of players that were big losers last year and a coach that's never coached a game. I sure wouldn't give them much respect in the preseason.
