they list clients by "FBS" and "FCS - I-AAA"....let's hope that's not a sign of the quality of their work.

I-AAA is a designation for D1 schools that do not have a football program. Notice schools like American are listed under it. It says "FCS, I-AAA".

Big East Conference
January - March 1999
Conducted a confidential study of the present status of, and issues of, the future for the Conference, one of the six major I-A conferences with membership in the Bowl Championship Series.

I'd like to see that report... "You do not belong, move down to Group of 5"

maybe the Big East should sue Carr....wasn't much after that Miami, VA Tech and BC bolted for the ACC and basically started that downward spiral to where it is today.

Maybe they left because they saw the report?

It looks like in '99... Mason hired them to do a feasability to add FCS football. Just saying, their part in JMU's study is not a foregone conclusion that we upgrade to FBS. I'm just hoping!

If the Carr group's website is any indication of their quality of work and professionalism, you might as well take that report and wipe with it. How in the world can a management consulting firm put something like that out there in 2013?

Edit: So Carr Sports Associates is just one dude? The word "Associates" led me to believe this was an actual organization. But, if you look at all of the testimonials they refer specifically to Bill Carr.

I see 6 people listed under associates. Bill Carr is just the top guy

maybe a free website redesign and coding from a JMU grad or student would help sway things? 05-stirthepot

What a joke. I feel like this whole thing is going to be an excuse for the admin to stay in the CAA. I look at Carr and his "associates" (which probably don't contribute much, if anything considering they have full time jobs) and don't see much value. I'd have to see the final product in detail before I'd say that, but they don't even seem to have the background to perform such an assessment. Why is Jeff Bourne's job consistently outsourced? How come he can't do his job?

Every A.D. in the country pretty much hires these kind of firms for head coaching searches and what not. Those firms do all the background checks and on people. Except the one Rutgers hired to verify the degree Eddie Jordan supposedly got from Rutgers. Oops.

Try not to judge them on their website even though its boo boo. The universities and conferences they have worked with, the number of years they have been in business, and the fact that they keep getting referred is what you should look at. If you have an awesome rep you don't need an awesome website even in 2013.

Rutgers has way bigger problems than Eddie Jordan not having a degree. How bout having an image problem because of their basketball coach and the coverup that went on afterwards. So what do the Fighting Sopranos do? They hire a search firm, get a list of candidates, then hire a new AD with the same issues as that idiot coach ( and one who wasn't even on the search firms list). An impressive group of decision makers they have there.

In regards to this thread, I was told by many people June 7 was the conclusion of the Carr study/report. I did not mean to imply we would hear the findings of the report this weekend.

From what I heard it's not actually the conclusion, which is supposed to be in September. The admin requested an early read on things in June so that they could start laying out next steps for whatever is going to happen.

Carr Report Day!
So it's two weeks until July 2nd. Not a substantial rumor in sight. 10 weeks until the season begins.

Official board minutes from the June 6/7 BOV retreat have been posted.

2 seperate closed sessions occurred. One was typical in nature, the other was to "discuss consideration of the investment of public funds, because competition or bargaining is involved and the financial interest of the university would be adversely effected if the matter were made public.”

Could be... Decided to not move up due to lack of interest in FBS offers... Sun Belt Conference doesn't suit JMU's BOV geographic footprint nor academic standards and would rather wait for CUSA, even if that doesn't come to fruition. If they made that public, many JMU fans would be outraged.

EDIT* Only Speculation...

Cryptic, but I would think that conference re-alignment would be the most likely possibility for what that closed session could be about.

Carr Report Day!
Here's my question. If going fbs was not in the bov's favor, even if the sun belt were the only option, wouldn't it be a quick session and nothing vague would make its way to the minutes?
