Rick Barry was interviewed on the radio today and he was talking about free throw shooting. Turns out his son Canyon will be a redshirt freshman this year with the College of Charleston and according to Rick he plans to shoot his free throws underhanded like his old man.

He's 69 but has an 18 year old son with his third wife. Canyon is half brothers with Drew, Scooter, et al.

Be glad we aren't in the same conference as Butte College, or you could be looking at updates called Butte Nuggets.

Ha, I had no idea. He wasn't very popular in Virginia after he demanded a trade from the Va Squires before he even played a game - and said some rather unflattering things about the south in general. I'm surprised he would let his son play in Charleston - jeez.

Rick's 3rd wife, mother of Canyon, is W&M alum Lynn Noremberg. She was 1978 Homecoming Queen, drop-dead gorgeous, captain/star of the W&M women's basketball team and Phi Beta Kappa. She was as well rounded an accomplished woman as you will find. Good genes in this kid.

Duped has strong feelings on Rick Barry

I haven't figured out how to change my user name on this here new board ;-) I have decided to be more low key and let Dukeman lead the way with the types of posts I love to write. That being said, JJ, I do have strong feelings about Rick Barry... I believe he is a world class POS. He was quoted as saying "he didn't want his kids to live in a state where the word y'all was used." Trust me, Virginia residents did not want his hippy ass anywhere near the Commonwealth :-)

I love that he is wearing "Chucks"! That is all I ever wore, also. Everyone stop hating. He was one of the greatest players of all time. I wouldn't want to live in any state that doesn't say y'all, but that doesn't make me a POS.

RE: Coc nugget
Selig tweeted the other day that he thinks Virginia should have a professional basketball team (using Richmond and I believe Norfolk as having the 6th and 7th biggest market share for game 7 of the NBA finals as evidence). Honestly, I agree that demand for pro basketball is pretty high in VA and I believe had the Bullets not been the most incompetent professional sports franchise of the last 35 years they would be pretty popular in VA.

I think if you name your kid Canyon you should be put in a FEMA camp. I mean he could have named his kid Blue or Black or Straw or Huckle or even Dingle, but CANYON?! C'mon, Rick. That's as nonconformist as like trying to make underhanded foul shots. Get with the program, dude!
