Why do you guys think the Big 12 is going to go from 19.8M per team to some made up outrageous amount of money soon? No one will be buy the Longhorn Network. Do you think TV is going to pay for Kansas St, Iowa St, West Va, Baylor and TCU? No offense to those schools but they aren't TV rating bonanzas.

The Big 12 has one thing on the ACC. Better PR. The ACC doesn't have a clue how to sell itself. There is nothing to suggest they clearly behind anyone. That's just quo vadis showing his butthurt over South Florida getting left out of the power conferences. It is what it is.

Anyway, here's why i think domination matters, using Florida as an example:The SEC dominates Florida. This doesn't necessarily mean that Florida has more fans in Florida than FSU and Miami combined. What it means is that among the great mass of college football fans in that state, there is far more interest in SEC than ACC football. That means that there is a significant audience for SEC games in Florida whether Florida is playing or not. Lots of folks in Florida care about LSU vs Arkansas, Tennessee vs Ole Miss, because they care about the SEC. But even FSU and Miami fans care little to nothing about Virginia vs NC State, North Carolina vs Georgia Tech, and the ACCN is going broadcast a lot of those games, too. So even though lots of folks in Florida want to watch FSU and Miami, the overall audience for ACC football on an ACCN in Florida is far less than for SEC football on an SECN, so an SECN will make a lot more money for the SEC. And this is true in places like Georgia and South Carolina as well: Even though Clemson and South Carolina have about the same number of fans, the fact that Clemson fans would rather their Tigers be in the SEC than ACC is indicative of the far greater interest in SEC football in that state. Again, that will be reflected in ratings, and money generated.

So "domination" matters because the dominating conference will make a lot more money from that state than the other conference, and making money is largely what these networks are about. The only places the ACC dominates is NC and VA, and that just isn't very much.

Insanity quo..pure and simple. I've told you this before, it's a good thing you aren't making decisions for ESPN or they would be out of business.

... and it sounds just as 01-wingedeagle01-wingedeagle now as the first time you said it. 07-coffee3

Quote: Unlike the SEC and BIG, the ACC will most likely make it's mark using basketball first then football. There's a ton more inventory for basketball than football, and the ACC has 4 of the most recognizable programs in the country. Basketball in the northeast and south will be the core.

No doubt, thanks to its raids of the Big East, the ACC has rescued its failing basketball league and will now have the most marketable basketball in the country. But, in the world of college athletics rights fees, that's pretty much the same thing as having the longest c*ck under 5 inches is in the world of porn.

Don't be jealous quo. The ACC will appreciate it when you buy the network too.03-lol

Not a chance, there's just so little programming worth paying for. Sure, I want to see Duke-Carolina basketball twice a year and the FSU-Florida football game, but that's about it for athletic content involving the ACC and i doubt those will be on the ACCN. 07-coffee3

That's because you'd rather see the ACC fail. Those who don't share that viewpoint see plenty of content.

All power conferences are about to get paid. Big 12 has an advantage because of 4 less schools (big pie..less mouths). The problem with the Big 12 is their long term potential is hampered because of the same reason.

Nope, I've never had anything against the ACC. Would love it if you guys invited USF tomorrow. But the ACC is the weakest of the P5, internally, externally, and financially. It is what it is. 07-coffee3

If you say so.

I'll take being weaker while making over 30 million a year. I don't think anyone is expecting the ACC to make the most money. All the ACC cared about was being competitive. That will be accomplished. Externally? Internally? What chu talkin' bout Willis?

Externally = its structural position in the playoff/bowl system
Internally = within-conference solidarity

But you are certainly right about one thing: The ACC is in the P5 and will thus remain competitive. You guys will have the money to compete. 04-cheers

Internally? That's a joke right. FSU, Clemson, Miami and who knows how many other schools could have gone to the Big 12. They said no. UNC, UVA, GT, and maybe even Duke looked Delany in the eye and said no thanks. The ACC has three different power conferences coveting it's schools, and all (for the exception of Maryland) stayed put. ACC banded together and decided to pull a fast one on everyone and take Louisville--which for football and basketball is far superior to Maryland. Internally the ACC is fine. Otherwise, they would have been ripped apart.

Externally? Dude, you need to stop with this structure debate. If the ACC won the next 5 national titles, are you still going to say that? Just because the ACC isn't in the Rose or Sugar Bowls doesn't mean they are lesser "structurally". Someone had to be the odd man out.

The ACC was seriously threatened with dismemberment. That is why they implemented a stunning $50 million exit fee, and when that didn't work, a GoR.

Other schools could have left just like Maryland but they didn't. Second, to sign a GOR it has to be unanimous. No one forced them to sign.

FSU got $18.2 in 2013, up from $16.8 in 2012, with $12.2 from TV. Source of ACC distributions is detailed in the article (TV, bowl travel allowance, NCAA tourney $, officials fees paid by conference, etc.)
