They had one of the best defensive lines in the country and for the first three quarters weren't even trying to rush the passer.

I totaly agree with this and if Lynch had been able to hit one or two wide open receivers the FSU D would have had to back off a bit. Also our RB was banged up that day and Lynch was our only running threat so FSU had it easy.

I am not at all down on Lynch, he is THE REASON that NIU won the MAC and made it to the Orange Bowl, he just did not have a good day throwing the ball that day. I love watching the guy play and I can't wait to see him play next season.
Go back and watch the Orange Bowl and watch what Florida State does with their defensive line. They just lined literally everybody inside and didn't even try to rush Lynch and just stayed in their lanes and clogged things up so Lynch couldn't run. Lynch had chances to make plays through the air and didn't.

Like you said, there's no reason to be down on Lynch but it'll be interesting to see if teams try to replicate what Florida State did (with obviously much less talent).

IF?

I'd call it a certainty and we best be planning an offensive game plan to address that.

The reason FSU can do that though is because of the team speed and having defensive backs that can pretty much shadow anyone around the field. That strategy will only work if you have the athleticism of FSU, and at least in our first 13 games of the upcoming season, there are no teams of that type.
Exactly. If you remember correctly Toledo did a similar thing in the first half and it worked. They clogged the middle of the field.

And then NIU gained 400 yards in the third quarter.

Still too many games not picked yet to know if this is good or bad.

Best case is to be on ABC 2:30pm regionally with an ESPN2 mirror like Neb So Miss last year.

Worse case is split broadcast on BTN.

ABC I feel it coming! If an 0-12 So Miss team is good enough for ABC, so are the Orange Bowl Huskies!
Come on man...This was week 1 and So Miss was coming off of a 12-2 season as CUSA champs over almost BCS buster Houston and were ranked #19/#20 in the final polls.

Any update on a potential gametime? Would think that would be out by now.

The game isn't for 90 days.

Somehow, I think they'll announce it in plenty of time.

Biggest non-conference game in NIU football history that isn't a post season game? The Iowa game this year has my vote.

As far as implications heading in, I would say so.

People would immediately point to some of the 03 games over this one, but the difference is how we should almost be expecting to win this one despite it being on the road against a Big Ten team. Lose, and everything Herbstreit bitched about seems valid to the rest of the country. Win convincingly, and the Huskies are for real.

Agree. Want to keep the train rolling. '03 games were viewed as upsets. When we win it won't be considered an upset amongst those who follow college football.

According to the ticket office, if I remember what I was told correctly, Iowa is $65 and I think sometime in July

That is how much Iowa is selling the tickets for our game.

Good points SAE and clc, well said. My fear though is just how the team will rebound if losing @ Iowa. Carey will be tested real fast in how he can handle the morale going into games vs EIU and Idaho, and getting the team ready to play for those games. I cant imagine losing a tough one at Iowa and then having to try and focus on the Vandals. Normally week 2 byes would be a bad thing, but I like it given how the Iowa game will likely be a physically and mentally taxing one.

If we win against Iowa, we will get another 5 million in free press that first week with the "can they do it again" chatter. If we don't win out and go BCS Redux, ideally we win the Iowa game to keep the press rolling, and don't lose until later in the season. On national radar most of the season and a bowl game makes for a sweet 2013 season.

ESPN just released the first 3 weeks of their B1G schedule...NIU at Iowa is not on the list. WTF?

I guess there is still a chance that ABC picks it up locally in Chicago/Rockford and Iowa at 11am but even that is a stretch.

More than likely the game will be on BTN.

More than likely the game will be on BTN.

4 BTN games with 2 time slots...each game will have to split the BTN broadcast area.

Likely we will see...
11am
CMU/UofM and SIU/UofI
2:30pm
UMASS/Wisconsin and NIU/Iowa

Best case for viewers is if our game is on during the CMU/Mich game. That way our game will be on in Wisconsin where we recruit.

The only thing better we can hope for is ABC Chicago, Rockford and whatever Iowa stations want to pick this up for 11am locally.....Unlikely per Mattsarz scheduling guru.

Really shocks me that NIU/Iowa was not chosen for ABC 230. Penn st vs Syracuse instead, wowwwwwww, talk about two bad football teams squaring off.

It does not matter about the teams...its all about the number of viewers.

Our killer was the Miss St oSu game not being picked up by Fox. If that would have happened then our game would be on ESPN.

It seems that Purdue/UC got picked over us for the 11am U slot.

Most likely this means that Iowa said no to an 11am home opener. If that is so then our game will be on 2:30 on BTN with one other B1G game...likely Wisconsin/UMASS.

I dont see any status difference of BTN and ESPN, those are pretty much equivalent in my eyes, its just that ABC slot that would have been really nice. NIU/Iowa is certainly one of the top 3 intriguing matchups of the week.

Not too many people care about watching a crappy Big Ten team play a MAC team

So to summarize, we're likely looking at a 2:30 kickoff? On BTN? Who cares. Let's win.
