OSU vs Buffalo will get the 11am ABC spot over us.

No way we get a 2:30pm ABC slot vs a down Iowa team even if it is regional.

Never underestimate the power of 2 things 1) the star power in Lynch in attracting a better slot coming off an Orange Bowl which was one of the higher rated bowl games except for nationalchampionship and 2) the brand name of Iowa. I say we get a 230 slot on ABC.

ITS OSU and they just came off a 12-0 season.

Urban Meyer trumps Lynch any day.

Iowa isn't going to get a 2:30pm ABC slot when they couldn't even get a BTN prime time game.

Isnt there usually 2 or 3 regional ABC games? Compared to whats going on that day, I certainly think it is an attractive of enough matchup for that. Some have Iowa as dark horse in the conference, and I think this could be one of the more compelling matchups of the day.

This may surprise some, but seems right to me being on he road.

We are a 6.5 point "dog" with at least one Sportsbook. I like it.

There is no doubt Iowa fans think very little of NIU. I didnt realize just to the degree until visiting their message board. They are definitely much more concerned about the Cyclones stealing a win from them in Ames than NIU getting one in Iowa City.

You guys have got to be kidding with these posts.
Even the dislike for Toledo on this board is just a drop in the ocean compared to the animosity between Iowa and Iowa State fans. Please keep in mind NIU has not beaten Iowa even once, so the first time it happens, it can still be chalked up as a fluke. Iowa-Iowa State is like Oklahoma-Nebraska, Michigan-Ohio State, USC-UCLA, the fans of either program grow up hating the other school. No disrespect MaddDawgz, but running into people who will give you grief over a loss to NIU isn't too likley, people from the hated rival will go out of their way to rub it in. That rivalry extends into other sports as well, they didn't even play in basketball for years, Iowa's string of success in wrestling came because Dan Gable became a "turncoat" in the eyes of Iowa State fans. They have a traveling trophy for their series against Minnesota that goes back decades, but Iowa fans would rather lose to Minnesota and beat Iowa State than vice-versa. You can't possibly expect them to put NIU on a par with their most-hated opponent.

RE: Iowa game discussion
Has a time been set yet for this game on the 31st? Also looking for a set time for the Purdue game.

I know the night schedule came out and we aren't on either.

If it's not out yet when is it anticpated to be released?

Our game vs Purdue is their homecoming. B1G homecoming games kickoff times should be announced any day. Most likely it will be an 11am (CT) kickoff as all B1G homecoming games not on prime time have typically had an 11am kickoff.

The Iowa game will be announced a few weeks later. All we know so far is it will not be a prime time game...so kickoff could be anytime between 11am and 5pm.

Typically the remainder of the unannounced MAC kickoff times are announced in mid June.

I am more worried about the LB positions for the Iowa game. However, I do like the game plan of scoring a lot of points just in case the defense isn't up to par.

Also, I was in Iowa City yesterday and I wore my Huskies hat and not one person said anything to me. I was kind of surprised.

I agree, the defense is going to be very good, a lot of people are forgetting about ONeal, this guy is a stud! NIU rotated so many players in and out at d-line that the depth is just incredible. My only small concern is offensive playmakers replacing Moore and Ashford.

There is no doubt Iowa fans think very little of NIU. I didnt realize just to the degree until visiting their message board. They are definitely much more concerned about the Cyclones stealing a win from them in Ames than NIU getting one in Iowa City.

I think Iowa fans are more concerned about ISU because of the in state rivalry. Iowa fans would have to eat more crow from Cyclone fans than from Huskie fans. Replace Iowa with Illinois, and they would be more concerned about losing to NIU.

Even if they are favored, the Huskies would be wise not to take any B1G team for granted.

RE: Iowa game discussion
Our players should be foaming at the mouth over the 6.5 underdog status.

Think about it: We were clearly the better football team last year. Not only was the week 1 game a fluke, it was a game we outplayed them in and it was most of the offense's first career start. Since that game, NIU ran the table and went to the Orange Bowl and played with one of the most loaded teams in the country for 3 quarters. Iowa went 4-8.

I get that it's Big Ten vs MAC and that it's Kinnick, but we return 9 starters and several defensive studs. What am I missing?

Looks like a giant slap in the face to me. I want to beat the **** out of these dopes.

RE: Iowa game discussion
I thought the line would open more in the 4.5-5.5 range so this is a little higher than I thought. It is not surprising though, Iowa is one of those teams that there are questions, but some think if those questions are answered adequately, that they can be a Big 10 dark horse to get to Indy. Frankly wouldnt surprise me if Iowa finished 3-9 or 9-3, just a lot of questions. Plus, Iowa is playing in Kinnick and that is huge for them. Much rather be underdogs going into this game.

I figured the line would be about 3. It might still move there, lots of time before the game. I mean, they have a brand new QB.

Hopefully the coaching staff won't run Lynch straight up the middle 25 times. Granted Iowa's defense isn't FSU, but I'm guessing they'll keep a close eye on 6. I'm all for imposing your will on an opponent but you also have to take what they give you. I'm hoping our guys show that if they want us to throw we can torch anyone. Longs ways off but that's what's coming to my mind.

The Florida State game had nothing to do with coaching. FSU took away running and made Lynch beat them throwing and he couldn't do it. It was that simple.

They had one of the best defensive lines in the country and for the first three quarters weren't even trying to rush the passer.

I totaly agree with this and if Lynch had been able to hit one or two wide open receivers the FSU D would have had to back off a bit. Also our RB was banged up that day and Lynch was our only running threat so FSU had it easy.

I am not at all down on Lynch, he is THE REASON that NIU won the MAC and made it to the Orange Bowl, he just did not have a good day throwing the ball that day. I love watching the guy play and I can't wait to see him play next season.

BYU - UVA got picked for the 2:30PM ESPNU slot which typically has been the Iowa/NIU spot.

Still too many games not picked yet to know if this is good or bad.

Best case is to be on ABC 2:30pm regionally with an ESPN2 mirror like Neb So Miss last year.

Worse case is split broadcast on BTN.

Go back and watch the Orange Bowl and watch what Florida State does with their defensive line. They just lined literally everybody inside and didn't even try to rush Lynch and just stayed in their lanes and clogged things up so Lynch couldn't run. Lynch had chances to make plays through the air and didn't.

Like you said, there's no reason to be down on Lynch but it'll be interesting to see if teams try to replicate what Florida State did (with obviously much less talent).

ABC I feel it coming! If an 0-12 So Miss team is good enough for ABC, so are the Orange Bowl Huskies!

IF?

I'd call it a certainty and we best be planning an offensive game plan to address that.

The reason FSU can do that though is because of the team speed and having defensive backs that can pretty much shadow anyone around the field. That strategy will only work if you have the athleticism of FSU, and at least in our first 13 games of the upcoming season, there are no teams of that type.
