Don't get used to it. I seriously doubt this version of the conference will EVER rival the tourny success the BE had. Oh, by the way , you are welcome. LOL!

The OBE was a great Hoops conference, indeed. That being said, (as many have pointed out) SMU's meteoric rise to title chaser (next year w/ Mudiay) puts everything ahead of schedule. We should have 4 bids in the bag next year (same number as this year), with Temple in the mix with their infusion of talent.
The new coaches at Houston, Tulsa, and USF, should recruit very well to a conference with the incumbent National Champion.
I am very pleased with our coaching talent. I'm especially excited about Sampson, though I'm tempering my expectations with UH's current roster situation.

"Meteoric risers title chaser".
Don't you think your guys have to actually win something before you call them "title chasers"? Or were you talking about chasing an NIT title - a goal which you still haven't achieved?
Maybe you meant to say "bid chase". - something which your guys haven't yet achieved either.
4 bids in the bag? At UConn we just lost 2 starters and our 6th man. Lost our best player. We're in rebuilding mode and aren't talking anything for granted. Cincy's in the same boat, having just lost 3 starters including their best player.
Temple has a "talent infusion"? Who would that be? They've signed one player, a 3/4 star player. That's it. When did one pretty good player become an infusion? Temple is still in trouble and is lacking high level talent.
I appreciate your enthusiasm, but having it tempered with a dose of reality wouldn't hurt.

Who are you kidding? You don't appreciate any enthusiasm on this board. The board that makes you choke your chicken is the NBE nostalgia league board.
Your lack of knowledge regarding Temple's transfers says enough about your limited knowledge of the AAC.
The word is out on SMU and Mudiay. Apparently, you're the only one who hasn't gotten the memo. They sure have figured prominently in most early projections. I wonder how Creighton will look this year without McDermott, Shia.

When you talk about Temple transfers, are you talking about what's coming in or what's going out?
I assume you're aware that they're losing 2 starters from what was an awful team? One of the starters was their leading scorer and the other was their leading rebounder. But transfers are going to solve that problem?
Good luck with that. Despite your enthusiasm, Temple needs a major overhaul and next year's newcomers aren't going to turn them into a contender for anything.
Projections aren't worth the paper they're written on. Of course I know about Mudlay. I also know that he'll be a freshman. They'll be rolling the dice with him. It might work out great with him or he might need another year. He certainly doesn't make them a lock for anything.
What does Creighton have to do with a discussion about Temple and SMU?

Larry Brown calls SMU recruit Emmanuel Mudiay ‘the best player in the country’
BY ANDREW MELNICK
Larry Brown has quickly turned the SMU Mustangs’ program around.
After barely missing out on the NCAA Tournament and finishing as the runner-up in the NIT, the Mustangs are set to bring in the player Brown believes is the best in the country, 5-star point guard Emmanuel Mudiay.
“It ain’t even close,” Brown told Adam Zagoria of SNY.TV. “He’s 6-5, he can just play. He makes people better, he can defend, he can rebound.
“He’s going to be a lottery pick if I don’t screw up.”

Everyone understands how good Mudlay can be. The objection was to calling the AAC a lock for 4 bids with SMU being one of the 4.
No matter how good Mudlay is, he's still a freshman who played against high school competition this year. As a PG, he'll be taking over the most important position on the floor. Everyone else depends on him. He's going to have to learn his responsibilities quickly and the be able to execute them without thinking about them. If he can do all that, he will be one and done and on his way to the NBA.
Shabazz Napier was a productive player as a freshman at UConn on a national championship team. He took over team leadership from Kemba Wallker as a sophomore with everyone else back and the #1 recruit in the country leading an excellent recruiting class. He was a mess and the team was a big disappointment.
That wasn't because Napier wasn't any good. We all saw this year what he was capable of. It just takes time to master that position. Some do it more quickly than others.
No one I saying that Mudlay won't or can't do it, but to say that it's a lock is simply ignoring just how big the transition is and how tough it is to make it.
Yes, Brown has turned the program around, but they still have a ways to go. They're not there yet, so it will take some doing. best of luck.

Yes, but this isn't a typical Freshman PG situation given the presence of this guy (Nick Moore), who will give a master like LB so much flexibility with his small lineups.

I understand.
But as a sophomore, Napier had Boatright, a top flight PG in his own right next to him. And he had an experienced starting lineup that had just won a national championship that just added the #1 recruit in the country.
That wasn't a typical situation either.
No matter how good the player, it's just not guaranteed even in good situations. I hope it works out because what's been done at SMU is a great story. It's just that it takes a lot of hard work, good chemistry, and a few breaks. If anyone can make it happen, it's Brown.

Been off the grid a bit... I'll just say this: these threads pain me. The average fan (not us message board wonks) don't know, nor do they care, about exit fee money, TV money, or any of that nonsense. It's hillarious watching fans of certain schools crow about the $$ they are going to make in this, or that conference. All while relegating themselves to almost obscurity. Yet look at the attention UCF got for it's BCS win, all from the lowly American.
But I hate to see our conference get torn a bit by these us vs. them $$ issues WITHIN the American. It's complicated, but I'll be glad when it's all over and done.

RE: C7 giving up almost all exit fees to 3 football schools / win-win
The funny thing from re-reading this thread, is how little the people postin in here (not all but most) understand about this divorce. The "kings ransom" that the Big East supposedly paid to the AAC for the name, was ALL stuff that had no entitlement too. It was never going to be their money, under the terms of the separation agreement made back in 2003. They didn't actually get anything from the Big East they were not already going to get, save for a $5 million payment that was part of the early exit. So essentially the n.Big East paid $5 million for the Big East name, and all of the Big East basketball records. I don't know about you, but I hardly call that a kings ransom. Especially if you recall a couple of the Houston guys who were ready to bolt the league after that (I want to say it was CougarRed, or something like that), because they insisted that joining this conference, without the Big East name, was pointless (implying Houston planned to market their new league as though the old members were still there).

Yes, and Memphis loses 3 starters and a bench player with big minutes. We've got some talented replacements, but who knows.
Though we had a good season, Memphis certainly didn't exceed any expectations last year. Expectations will be lower this upcoming year. Making the tourney will certainly not be a lock.

RE: C7 giving up almost all exit fees to 3 football schools / win-win

It had nothing to do with marketing the conference as if the old members were there; and had everything to do with maintaining awareness.
The "Big East" name was a placeholder card of sorts; associated with the #6 spot in the hierarchy of conferences.
There was a lot of concern (and I had it too) that trying to establish a new brand may muddy the waters as to public awareness.
And, I'll be the first to admit that I had great concerns.
Those concerns were well-founded. However, Aresco's ability to increase exposure and the AAC's performance have overcome the lack of brand identity.
It's been a magic season that no one could have fathomed; and it has made the decision to sell the name (for any price) a boon for this conference.
It's been a breath for fresh air, and much of the freshness has to do with NOT being identified with the former teams.
