In other words, not being safe and staying in the midwest/east and instead, going out west to get a perennial NCAA contender that other than geography, fits this league perfectly.

If Gonzga wants in, they should be in whether the conference is 10,12 or 14 teams.

Uh no. At ten when the closet team would be in milliwuakee that doesn't make much sense.

RE: ESPN: New League Expected to Have 10-12 Teams
I think VCU instead of Richmond. I don't think it's a coincidence they've been brought up several times in stories.
With VCU- you'd have VCU, Gonzaga, Xavier, Butler, Creighton- pretty much ALL of the top mid-majors joining the C7. Those 5 are the top names out there. 3 final 4's, I think around 10 sweet 16's- and all multiple NCAA teams in the last 10 years. I think the networks probably are really pushing them big time quite frankly.
One thing- just was looking. when VCU made the final 4- their game with Butler drew a 8.3 rating. That was off 3% from the year before when Michigan St lost to Butler- and off by only 1% from the year after when Louisville played Kentucky(got 8.4 rating). That's not a bad rating at all....

VCU is not a name. Also Richmond has been mentioned a lot now lately when they were never mentioned a month ago.

There is close to a zero percent chance that the league will end up at 10 teams. So that is a moot point Redman.
I would prefer VCU over Richmond as well Stever20. It has a better basketball resume than Richmond. It it's first year in the A10, it's at the top of the standings.

VCU is more of a name than Creighton is. They just are. Just stop with the delusion that the final 4 doesn't mean anything.... If we are going to 14- adding 7 teams, I don't see how the C7 folks could look logical NOT taking them quite frankly. Especially if they took Richmond.
I just don't think end of the day there will be a private school litmus test to get into the conference. period.

I never said Creighton was a name, just saying that VCU is not in the level of Butler, Gonzaga or Xavier when it comes to name recognition.

They may not be in the top 3- but they are one of the top 5 names out there as mid majors.
And in a recent sense, VCU is a name. When you make a final 4 that is just huge. Their final 4 game got a 8.3 rating nationally. think about that. plus when they beat Duke, that was a huge story.

What do you define as a mid major? UNLV? Temple? SD St.?

UNLV and San Diego St are interesting ones. UNLV used to be, but they aren't what they used to be. Same with Temple. Used to be with Cheyney but since he left it's not been the same at all. San Diego St you talk about a school being just 1 coach- that's it.

If Gonzaga is actually in play then VCU becomes expendable.

You think with anyone VCU becomes expendable. You'd probably take Holy Cross over them. what a joke.

my 2 cents, there are 4 i would definately take over VCU: butler, xavier, stlouis and creighton. As number 5 I could live with, as long as those 4 get in as well

Right and I get that. My point, if we're going to 14, VCU is close to a must at that point.
