RE: Jumbotron
It is confirmed that we will have a new video screen (assuming sound) system for the upcoming season for both Huskie Stadium and the Convo arena.

The new screen for Huskie Stadium was reported as part of our bid for the IHSA football championships.

The size of the screen was rumored to be 30 yards wide however at that time the actual bids had not been handed in yet.

Both the HS and Convo screens are rumored to work off of one master system which is a smart cost cutting measure.

It was confirmed on signing day that ribbon boards are on the table, most likely if there is enough money. However if we do not install ribbon boards then we may be asked by IHSA to take down any of the advertisements on the front edge of each stands which conflict with their sponsors.

That's crazy 30 yards! I hope in a couple of years we have some sustained growth in attendance and merch sales (although I thought after the first MAC Championship attendance would go up) they'll be able to give a face lift to the press box.

RE: Jumbotron
30 yrds of screen or 30 yrds of structure. That is the question. The scoreboard we have now is about 30 yrds of structure.

The structure is not changing, so whatever they put up has to fit on that. From what I heard though, it is gonna be huge!

I wish the structure was changing, it is one of the last things in the stadium that looks bad. But then again the screen we have no barely worked during a few games so a functioning screen is good enough for now.

...I don't like the sound of that.

With that info we are definitely NOT going to end up with something like WF.

I disagree. Do it right. Build a new structure, get a new screen, and put in the ribbon boards.

RE: Jumbotron
They will make a BIG mistake if they do not design the structure to eventually build stands around it. South Endzone seating is more important than the structure.

The old structure is a piece of S__T

Well yeah it'd be amazing if they did it right, but if they don't have the money it's better than nothing.

I would rather wait an extra year and get it right instead of putting something in now and regretting it later. We need a new structure for the scoreboard. Maybe they can take the scoreboard down and build a new structure later but it seems like it would make more sense to do that stuff at the same time.

RE: Jumbotron
Well hopefully the plans come out soon and you are right because the current structure looks like it belongs in a TX high school football system.

I'm sure quite a few Texas HS stadiums have better screens and structures. If they can't redo the structure at a later date then they should wait. If they can take the screen down and build a new structure later then they can do whatever they want.

From what I was told by my old boss, the structure can't be added to without breaking code or something like that. So to replace it would have cost way too much.

Anybody think they'll show some "schematics" for this at the HASF kickoff on 3/2?

The University is 1/2 of Dekalb. You would think a zoning variance for something harmless and cool like a new scoreboard would be a beer or a phone call away.

OK that make MUCH more sense. I would guess that its too close to the sidewalk/street for the current code. There will be high voltage which most likely for a new structure would have to be much further away from the sidewalk that what it is now.

Keeping the beams is the best loophole to still give us a new board.
