RE: Hazell Sweepstakes
I respect your opinion and the right to have one, but get real. DH was making $300,000 per year at KSU and was offered $2,000,000 per year at PU. You say you would do the same thing, so why are you angry or bitter? If you fault him for the promises he made players to come to KSU or to anyone else, it is you that has the problem. You should probably quit watching sports all together. This is the real world and he was dedicated to the players and the university.....while he was our coach.

Agree with Danny.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Far be it from me to expect to change anyone's mind. But, to expect a 48 year old coach who got his first head coaching gig late in his career to turn down $12 million guaranteed bucks is just unrealistic. Unrealistic is low on the scale. It's closer to insane.
Some expected DH to pay a "loyalty" price of $11.1 million to stay at KSU. What does he get in return? Fans who wanted to fire him after 7 games in his head coaching career when he was 1-6? Fans who won't show up at Dix Stadium and pay $5.00 for a ticket on a beautiful Saturday afternoon because they have to miss 15 minutes of the Buckeyes game? Shaking the cushions for loose change to build his program? What should DH expect for his $11.1 million loyalty fee?
I don't know who said what to who. But people hear what they need to hear. Personally, never interpreted that "have not accepted the job" to mean "I turned it down." But others did. Maybe a player heard " I don't plan to leave" as " I'm staying." Have listened very closely to DH respond to questions about other opportunities over this past week and never thought he was misleading. But, people hear what they need to hear.

I would check his sanity if he left 11 million dollars on the table to stay here. I also see nowhere where he lied or misled anyone about staying or leaving. If someone offers me a 11 million dollar raise over 6 years I would walk across country to get there. He just made a smart business decision.

RE: Hazell Sweepstakes
In this day and age of instant news video social media or other outlets I think he did an incredible job to due his due diligence in regards to feeling out the offer, letting those in the program know and accepting it. That a major holdup to him was if he was allowed to coach these kids in the bowl game says a lot. This man is one that made as major of an impact in as brief of a time as you'll find anywhere. And I hope 40 years from now we're all able to look back with good stories in between and point to the man that started it all as opposed to waiting all those years for another kick at the can.

RE: Hazell Sweepstakes
Would someone expect the manager of the Akron Aeros to turn down a job offer to manage the Detroit Tigers out of loyalty to Akron? That's really what just happened to DH. Let's face it, there are 50 or so schools that really comprise Division I in football and then there is everybody else. Yeah a Boise or NIU can spoil the party occasionally but only because of some special rules that allow them to and that keep the big boys from getting sued. Also anybody thinking of changing jobs is always a bit evasive in public. You have to be. That's the same in any business including college football. People who burn bridges (aka Ford) are always criticized and thought of as not very bright. I see nothing wrong with the way DH handled himself and left.
