UPDATE: The current favorite to land the Boston College vacancy is Notre Dame defensive coordinator Dob Diaco.
"After a week of gathering names and putting together a wish list which would be inclined to accept an offer as Boston College?s next football coach, BC Director of Athletics Brad Bates will focus on Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco," Mark Blaudschun of ajerseyguy.com reported.
Boston College's interview with Diaco is expected to commence today, and an agreement could come within days after the meeting.

Frank Spaziani's tenure at Boston College has come to a close. The Eagles regressed under his supervision, and it was time for the program to move on from the devoted coach.
It's now time to start concentrating on potential replacements.
Boston College would has some interest in Miami head coach Al Golden. Despite all the problems Al Golden has faced as Miami's head coach with the possibility of more to come, he doesn't appear to be going anywhere.
"I try to be honest with you and I try to give you inside information," Golden told Michael Casagrande of the Sun Sentinel. "We're not in the business of searching for another job right now." Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi and San Francisco 49ers' offensive coordinator Greg Roman have both been attached to Boston College even before the season began when Frank Spaziani was merely on the hot seat. Narduzzi may be the early frontrunner for the vacancy.
"...Narduzzi, also an ace recruiter, seems like he would have the best shot (among college assistants) to land the Boston College job," Bruce Feldman of CBSSports.com wrote.
Roman will also receive legitimate consideration.
"I'm told the New Jersey native is a strong candidate at Boston College, as well as back in the Bay Area at California," Feldman noted.
Boston College could look to the FCS ranks to land its next head coach. Bob Wilder is 37-9 in his four seasons at Old Dominion. A program which he built from the ground up. And Wilder would bring a spread offense that currently ranks first overall at the FCS level.
"Wilder is an extremely interesting candidate and would instantly add excitement to the program," EagleAction.com wrote. "By the way, Old Dominion is sponsored by Under Armor, so that relationship is already there."
Wilder also has a history at Boston College. He served as a graduate assistant with the program under Jack Bicknell. Wilder's extensive roots in the Northeast having played and coached at Maine might make him more than an interesting candidate; it should make him one of the top candidates.
The Eagles are also interested in a pair of assistant coaches currently residing in New Orleans.
"Saints OC Pete Carmichael Jr., a BC graduate, is on radar of BC athletic dept. as a potential HC," a source told ESPN Insider Adam Schefter.
Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com added, "Per a league source, B.C. athletic director Brad Bates will interview Saints offensive line coach/running game coordinator Aaron Kromer for the vacant position in the days after the Saints Thursday night game against the Falcons."

CU's plans to land Jones 10:22AM ET Colorado Buffaloes
Names to watch
Butch Jones - Cincinnati head coach
Tim DeRuyter - Fresno State head coach
Jim Grobe - Wake Forest head coach
Dan Mullen - Mississippi State head coach
Justin Wilcox - Washington defensive coordinator
Derek Mason - Stanford defensive coordinator
Ken Niumatalolo - Navy head coach
UPDATE: Colorado has its sights set on one particular coach. But it also has backup plans just in case Cincinnati's Butch Jones doesn't accept the offer.
"Sources say Colorado plans to interview Cincinnati coach Butch Jones early next week. CU Buffs also interested in Dan Mullen and Jim Grobe," Kyle Ringo of the Boulder Daily Camera tweeted.
Colorado is determined to prove to Jones the school is once again committed to winning.
"Buffs athletic director Mike Bohn and CU president Bruce Benson are prepared to offer Jones a five-year contract worth more than $13.5 million," a source told Woody Paige of the Denver Post. "Colorado also will commit to upgrade Folsom Field, the Dal Ward Athletic Center and the team's practice facilities."
If Jones is ready to accept the position, a decision will be made in the next 24 hours.
"I've done plenty of these (hirings and contracts), and it will be decided by Tuesday," Trace Armstrong, Jones' agent, told Paige. "This won't drag on. We'll see what happens at Colorado."
---
Colorado head coach Jon Embree faced an uphill battle to retain his job after two seasons. But it was initially believed he would retain his position despite a 4-21 record after two seasons due to the programs shortcomings. Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn decided otherwise, and the Buffaloes are searching for their third head coach in three years.
"Don't be surprised if Colorado targets Fresno State head coach Tim DeRuyter," Pete Roussel of CoachingSearch.com wrote.
In DeRuyter's only season as head coach of Fresno State, the Bulldogs are 9-3 and sitting atop the Mountain West standings.

********Auburn set to interview Bama asst. 9:56AM ET
Auburn Tigers Names to watch
Bobby Petrino - Former Arkansas head coach
Gus Malzahn - Arkansas State head coach
Kirby Smart - Alabama defensive coordinator
Jimbo Fisher - Florida State head coach
Larry Fedora - North Carolina head coach
Gary Patterson - TCU head coach
Sonny Dykes - Louisiana Tech head coach
Mark Hudspeth - UL-Lafayette head coach
Chad Morris - Clemson head coach
UPDATE: If you can't beat them, join them. Auburn hasn't been able to beat Alabama recently. The Tigers are now interested in one of the Crimson's Tide's staff.
Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart will interview for the Auburn vacancy according to AuburnUndercover.com.
A hire could come quickly after Smart's interview.
"Sources at Auburn are telling us that a new coach will be announced around mid-week. Say fans may be 'surprised' by the hire," Southern Sports Tonight Radio tweeted.

Football today is all about what a coach has done lately.
Gene Chizik may have led Auburn to a national championship two years ago, but those memories are quickly forgotten after a 3-9 season with historic losses in the Iron Bowl to Alabama and to new SEC member Texas A&M.
Chizik was dismissed, and the search began for a new coach on the Plains.
The first named in conjunction with the vacancy is former Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino.
"Bobby Petrino is among the candidates emerging for the Auburn coaching vacancy," a source told Bruce Feldman of CBSSports.com.
"Petrino is definitely getting consideration for the Tigers head coaching job, the source says. Auburn's search committee is planning to do its research not only into Petrino's background but it is also examining his leadership skills and how he runs a football program as part of the search process."
Auburn's current predicament as a school that fired their national championship coach two seasons after a national championship plus possible looming NCAA sanctions doesn't make this particular job enticing for most. Petrino would take it in an instant.
"The industry source we spoke to said that Auburn and ex-Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino -- himself a former AU aide -- appear destined to partner up at this point," Mr.Sec.com wrote. "...just like everywhere else, there's a real split when it comes to the coach who lost his last job in scandal.
"The Tigers -- if they can't lure in someone else under the current circumstances -- could sign Petrino to an ironclad deal that would lock him to Auburn with a high-priced escape clause. He'd sign such a deal if given the chance. NCAA issues or not. An AD on the hot seat or not. Petrino wants back in and Auburn might find itself desperate enough to take him."
Auburn may have been one of the prime coaching slots a few weeks ago, but problems bubbling under the surface may force the Tigers to go in a direction that doesn't have the full support of its fans or boosters.
But Petrino clearly comes with some baggage:

Petrino and Auburn
"There's a faction of folks (with power) at Auburn who want former Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino. They know, errors in judgment aside, he's a repeatedly proven winner at the college level. He's also an obvious fit for the league and the division given his experience with the Razorbacks (he had a 34-17 record in four seasons in Fayetteville). There's likewise a faction of folks (with power) at Auburn who want anyone other than Petrino. Those are the more moralistic supporters, those who -- perhaps naively -- think there has to be a prevalent moral compass for the head coach and whoever does the hiring of said coach. I've been reminded in recent discussions that whoever takes the reins at Auburn must buy into the idea that the Tigers community is a "family." Whether that's Pollyanna kind of stuff or not, it does have a bearing in how the school hires."

Early coach options for USF 8:14AM ET
*****South Florida Bulls Names to watch
Mario Cristobal - Florida International head coach
Mark Snyder - Texas A&M defensive coordinator
Dan Quinn - Florida defensive coordinator
Willie Taggart - Western Kentucky head coach
Sonny Dykes - Louisiana Tech head coach
Brent Pease - Florida offensive coordinator
Gus Malzahn - Arkansas State head coach
Dirk Koetter - Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator
Houston Nutt - former Ole Miss head coach
Mike Bellotti - former Oregon head coach
Kliff Kingsbury - Texas A&M offensive coordinator
Kirby Smart - Alabama defensive coordinator
Chad Morris - Clemson offensive coordinator
UPDATE: South Florida got progressively worse under Skip Holtz's watch. And the school decided to move past its latest coach. The search for a replacement has begun and may start in-state.
"Name in mix at USF: Mario Cristobal (head coach at Florida International). Bypassed good jobs last winter but after injury hit yr, may be ready to go for this," Bruce Feldman of CBSSports.com tweeted.
Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times also compiled an initial list of candidates which includes: Western Kentucky head coach Willie Taggart, Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mark Snyder, Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and former Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt.
ESPN college football reporter Brett McMurphy, citing several sources, reports that the South Florida Bulls have decided to fire Skip Holtz.
"Holtz, whose teams went 1-6 in the Big East in each of the last two seasons, lost nine of his final 10 games, including a 27-3 loss to Pittsburgh in Saturday's home finale," writes Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times. "His dismissal comes less than six months after he was given an extension by athletic director Doug Woolard, who now must pay Holtz $2.5 million over the remaining five years on his contract."
"After a 4-0 start last season, the wheels came off for the Bulls, who dropped seven of their last eight games to finish 5-7 and miss a bowl game for the first time since 2004," Auman adds. "With a strong senior class led by quarterback B.J. Daniels, USF was picked to finish second in the Big East in the preseason, but struggled from the start, needing a last-minute rally to win at Nevada in its second game.
"From there, the Bulls lost nine of the next 10 games, including three losses in which the Bulls led late, only to see opponents drive 75 yards for a go-ahead touchdown in the closing minutes. The Bulls ended a six-game losing streak with a home win against Connecticut, but struggled in the last three games after losing Daniels to a season-ending ankle injury."
At this early stage of the game, it's far too soon to know any favorites for the South Florida job, but you can expect to hear the usual suspects bandied about until favorites emerge.

Cincy's attempt to keep Jones
8:01AM ET Cincinnati Bearcats
Cincinnati head coach Butch Jones is reportedly the leading candidate at two current vacancies around the country. Purdue and Colorado are calling, but Cincinnati is attempting to keep their coach.
"It is believed that UC is trying to rework part of Jones' contract in an attempt to keep him," Tom Groeschen of Cincinnati.com reported. "Included in those talks is a guarantee that Nippert Stadium will be renovated in a defined period of time."
Jones is already compensated more than what Colorado or Purdue paid their previous coaches. Both programs also publicly stated they are willing to financially commit to their next coach. If Cincinnati shows the same commitment, Jones may use the current leverage to improve his existing contract and his football team instead of moving to another program.
