RE: Basketball News -
With all the former players coming back to be coaches that has to help in recruiting. To be able to offer a chance to come back and coach after their playing days are done should entice some of the kids. After all how many schools are willing to bring back so many athletes to start their coaching careers.

Is it really common practice to have 3 on the staff? I am going to check on that because I worry they are too inbred also. I'l post after I do some research (such a boring life).

This is a legitimate concern if and it is a big IF, if the program is a losing program. I am more concerned about the ability to persuade great players to come to the program.

Thanks Danny you saved me a lot of time. So 12/340 or about 3-4%. More than I would have thought.

Glad to do it. I remembered seeing it in the basketball pre-game press releases last year. I just opened it and cut and pasted! 04-cheers

I wonder about the motivation for the schools on this list is probably different than our program. A Duke or Syracuse alumni might want to coach there because of the tutelage of the HC. An alumni from Kent might want to coach back home to be in line for the next opening.

Kent is playing in another one of those exempt (presumably) tournaments, the Nebraska Classic. Kent will host Chicago State, Valpo, and Bethune-Cookman, and play at Nebraska.

I will be in Lincoln NE for the KSU @ Nebraska game. Going to head over with some friends/family. Nebraska just hired Colorado States head coach, Tim Miles, in an effort to turn around a perennial lower Big 12, now Big Ten team. 1 of Nebraska's best players, 6'11" center, decided to go pro overseas instead of play under Miles this season, so at least KSU won't have to deal with him in November.

Not to hijack a thread that I started, but apparently EMU coach Rob Murphy resigned today to become a scout for the Orlando Magic. Something doesn't add up here. You work your entire life to become a D1 head coach and after your first year you make this move? I am betting some kind of story comes out in the wash.

Wow, yeah, that is shocking/head scratching. Especially with the recent news of Howard being traded away and Orlando getting nothing for it.

It would be interesting to know the compensation of a NBA scout vs the compensation of a D1 head coach @ a mid-major school...

RE: Basketball News -
Here is some good news. Tyler Scott, who was being pursued by several high major schools has agreed to come to KSU and pay his own way this season. Many high majors wanted him to do the same or they wanted to send him to prep school for a year. He will be eligible in the fall of 2013. I have been told he is easily the most talented player we have had on campus in years. I know we have all heard that before, so only time will tell. I have included some clips for your viewing pleasure.

Based on the highlights, I can get excited about Tyler. Is he an academic risk? I will take his classes for him.

I noticed his offer list included the likes of Duquense and Cleveland State. Seems about par for the KSU course. Wondering what it is about him that makes you speak so highly?

An offer list wouldn't show teams that wanted him to prep because they weren't making him an offer. They were only wanting to stash him away somewhere with a handshake agreement that he would come to campus the following year. Tyler Scott is very well regarded and it isn't my verbiage that said he is likely to be the most talented player to come to Kent in the last decade.

RE: Basketball News -
Everything I've ever read on Scott leads me to side with Danny, this looks like an exceptional addition. For what it's worth here's his stats from his junior and senior year.
http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/gat.../stats.htm
http://www.maxpreps.com/athletes/BYyrw1U...-scott.htm

I always take the accuracy of HS stats with a grain of salt but here's a few of the things that stand out to me. His ppg, rpg, and apg all dipped a little from Jr to Sr year. Overall his numbers were still very strong so I'm not too worried. He shoots a very high percentage from the field (great PPS) and doesn't turn the ball over a ton. Also, it seems he improved his 3pt shooting his senior year (27% as a Jr 45% as a Sr).

The one thing I would say is a bit concerning is that he went from shooting 81% his Jr year to 63% his Sr year at the FT line. He'll have plenty of time to work on that this year.

I'm definitely very excited about this addition.
