RE: Why does Rudy get blasted............
Oh and yes, the point is that they are the top players in the game. I gave you a list of guys that Rudy is on par with. I'm not saying he's Sam Young. More like Granger and Deng. You act like I'm tearing him up.

RE: Why does Rudy get blasted............
Rudy doesnt need to be lebron from the cavs.....even lebron isnt lebron from the cavs now that hes in miami.
When u have options, you dont have to ball hog n try and be the man. Look how much better Melo's teams play once hes out of the lineup. First denver, now ny.
Rudy just needs to try more defensively.....everything else is golden.

I didn't say he needed to be that for us, I said he wasn't capable of being that for a team.

RE: Why does Rudy get blasted............
It doesn't matter what Gay's stats are; he's lazy, he doesn't play defense and he's lackadaisacal. He doesn't take over games when he should. People would be happy with the stats if he was busting his ass every night...he isn't. You can't look at his stats and be satisfied. You look at what he should be and who he is and it's disappointing.

RE: Why does Rudy get blasted............
The problem I have with Rudy this season is that so far he seems to have GREAT 2nd quarters and then disappears in the 3rd quarter, only to try and be "the guy" in the waning minutes of the 4th quarter. That's just how I see it, and I do expect more from him because everyone should be able to tell that he does have a tendency to play lazy at certain times during a game.
For Rudy's sake I hope he steps his game up from start to finish and learns to be consistently aggressive, always looking for the ball, driving the lane, etc. I think it would benefit him greatly, as well as free up open looks for the rest of the team. An aggressive Rudy Gay is a better Rudy Gay.

If you put Rudy on the Cavs teams that Lebron was on they'd win 30 games, not be the top seed in the East. Rudy is not that kind of player. You can also spin the stats to make it sound like he's close when he's not. He's not 14th in the league in scoring, he'll wind up in the 20-25 range once the season is over. Some guys haven't played enough minutes to qualify but they'll be ahead of him. http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/player...fied/false
I don't care how much money Rudy makes. Also if you're just looking at numbers to evaluate players you're lost. Would you rather have Tracy McGrady or Kobe? Similar career stats but obviously Kobe is miles ahead of him as a basketball player.

You are arguing with facts. I'll quit trying and let you keep whining.

Both those guys are making $13 million a year for the next three years.
Rudy is playing just fine according to his results on the court and comparable to the top 10 small forwards in the league.
What is you point in this thread?

I'm not arguing with facts. You just don't know how the stats work apparently.
The point of the thread was that someone asked why Rudy gets blasted and I was trying to answer that. The. You came along and started arguing that Rudy is in a class with lebron, etc, which is absurd. If you are satisfied with lazy effort that's fine, I was just responding to why fans would be frustrated.

Show us where I ever said Rudy was "in the class with Lebron". I just said he's putting up numbers that are comparable to those guys and is earning his paycheck.
Oh, and tell us "how the stats work" please.

If he isn't, no one else in the NBA is.

Quote:Predictably, Brewer's scoring outburst provoked a lot of ire — at least on my Twitter feed — over Gay's defense. But, while I wouldn't say Gay couldn't have played him better — the middle of Brewer's initial trio of threes came, as Hollins pointed out, after Gay had lagged behind at the other end, arguing a non-call — this was more related to scheme than individual defense.
“He got hot and hit some buckets,” Hollins said, explaining that “they were attacking the basket with two shooters in the corners.” Initially, Gay was helping off Brewer — who isn't exactly Ray Allen — on Nuggets' drives, and getting burned. After the third three, Gay turned to the Grizzlies bench and made a comment about switching up the scheme to stay at home on Brewer.
For what it's worth, Brewer's next two threes came with Tony Allen on him — one on a cross-match in transition, the other with Gay out of the game — as did the two Andre Miller threes in the fourth quarter. But those realities about defensive schemes and match-ups don't fit into the “Allen is a great defender, Gay is a lazy defender” narrative some fans prefer. That narrative is often right, but it wasn't quite the story tonight. (Tony Allen's post-game take, with a smile: “[Brewer] just got lucky. I'm not gonna praise him.”

RE: Why does Rudy get blasted............
So not only are you trying to make assertions about Gay's defensive abilities from one game, there is also an insinuation that Gay is in the same zip code with Tony Allen as a defender. I remember in that same game Rudy got caught staring at the ball and brewer made a baseline cut and was fed for an easy layup but I guess that was scheme too. The reality is that when Rudy wants to be he is a very capable defender but he doesn't always choose to be that. He is lazy a lot of the time on defense. If the best you can come up with is "yeah he got torched tonight but it was just the scheme", he's probably not a good defender.

RE: Why does Rudy get blasted............
The problem is that you don't get this type of performance all the time from him. How do you not understand this? I'm not saying you have to agree, but 2 or 3 games doesn't change several years. Your expectations may be met by Rudy going off 10-15 games per year and taking several games/possessions off. With his talent level and ability that disappoints me. That said, he was awesome last night in a great win for the grizz. This topic should be destroyed because it's going nowhere.

He's been a top small forward for YEARS. Where have you been?
And, your argument is the only thing going nowhere.
