I think MT has known from the very beginning he would not be able to keep the autobid. That is exactly why the 8-8 deal was so sweet. Basketball has always been the insurance policy for this league. the very WORST thing the NBE could do is add another group of 'no name' football schools.
Aren't you the same person that said that the Big East would lose their BCS bid the LAST time? And, if anything, losing the BCS would speed up the split. You're telling me that the football schools would be willing to split less money among 16 teams then they are now?

Thats why I was thrilled when CUSA became more regional. You can actually build some rivalries with schools your fans can relate to.
Really. And where was USC a few years ago? Heck where was Virginia Tech a few years ago. Now they're national title contenders. As for not building regional rivalries in the Big East lets see, West Virginia-Pitt, Louisville-Cincinnati, Rutgers-Syracuse, Cincinnati-Pitt, Louisville-West Virginia, Cincinnati-West Virginia, Cincinnati-Connecticut, South Florida is an issue, then again so was Miami.

Real quickly as this is the BE folks' board not ours ... I disagree. The BCS money would be too much to ignore. Plus there would be an almost certainty of eventual all-sports bid. And ... if in the meantime, Memphis (or ECU, etc.) acquired A-10 b'ball membership it is a push at worst regarding hoops' strength compared with the new CUSA. Just my opinions of course.

If the football playing schools decided to add a football only member, would the basketball only BE members have to vote to approve the addition? Most of the BE expansion/split discussion revolves around what the football playing members want. It seems to me that the basketball only schools would want some say even if it's for adding a football only member.

There won't be any BCS money Tiger and even if there were why should they split it with you?

Don't worry Tiger fans, this is the person who said the extra BCS game will only be worth 4 Million but in reality it is worth the same as all the BCS Games and that is at least 17 Million if you are a conference champion. If you are a At Large school but not a conference champ from a BCS League then it is worth over 5 million.

Yes there would be BCS money. And why would they split it with Memphis? Because Memphis would be a member of the Big East conference if the Big East expanded. Duh. And the Big East will retain their BCS membership.

You guys ignore the meat of that article: The BE is losing bowl games, the BE is going to get TV deal for football below the MWC and C-USA. Can't blame you for skipping past that part. Oh, and the BE is going to lose its BCS bid, at which time, if you want some teams, you may be able to get ECU and marshall, because they are in the east, but that's it.
I love it when Cincy fans critique other programs.
Oh my; where was USC? One of the most storied programs in NCAA history. VPI? A well-funded state university.
Let's contrast that with Cincinnati, a commuter school that runs renegade athletic programs; Cincy, one of the 2 or 3 WORST football programs in the history of the NCAA - and that is a FACT. Cincy - good for 10k-20K in attendance, unless Ohio or Miami Us pack Nippert for them. What a coup the Big East got - let's not forget USF, the next Miami with their 8K cheering them on to national titles.
But, ECU doesn't fit with that high academic model of the Big EAst? Not only did the BE lose its 3 best football programs, it lost its 3 best Academic programs; and replaced them with 3 commuter schools, not one of which comes close to a real urban school like U of Pitt.

Haven't lost it yet, the funny thing is we already knew about the Orange going to the ACC LAST YEAR. It is like this, whether you like it or not the Big East is in the second strongest position of any league in regards to retaining it BCS Bid. Do you know WHY, because it 4 year average is slightly over 5 and only the Big 12 has a better average. A large part of that is due to Miami and Louisville and guess what, we should be even stronger next season.
BTW both Pitt and Syracuse slapped around Boston College and the 3 best academic schools in the Old Big East were Pitt, Rutgers and Boston College. Since when was VPI and Miami better academic schools then Pitt and Rutgers or even UConn or Syracuse for that matter.

Here's how I would do it:
Northern Division
1. UConn
2. Syracuse
3. Rutgers
4. Pittsburgh
5. West Virginia
6. Cincinnati
Southern Division
1. Louisville
2. Memphis
3. East Carolina
4. South Florida
5. Central Florida
6. Southern Miss

It's not an article, it's an unconfirmed rumor from a guy who claims to have spoke with somebody not directly involved in the Big East's TV/bowl contracts. Can't blame you for skipping that part.

You're kidding, right?
Quote:Not only did the BE lose its 3 best football programs
Yes, because we all know that BC is clearly a more successful football program than West Virginia or Pitt. You don't know what you are talking about.

So what's to prevent the FB schools from adding two or three football-only schools to tip the balance in their favor and retain the name before the split occurs?

I don't think football only schools are what the presidents want, or a 9th member would probably already exist.

That looks like C-USA "Lite". Not in favor of that. The revenue added by those other teams would not warrent the split of BCS cash. The NBE needs to be at 9 teams for the short term future.
My personal rankings:
1) ND (Pipe dream)
2) PSU (B10 to BE, not likely)
3) Memphis (All Sports)
4) ECU (football only)

Wrong: Georgetown, Syracuse, Notre Dame and Boston College are considered the best schools academically in the Big East. Pitt, Rutgers, Nova and UConn follow just behind. VPI and Miami would be comparable to the latter four.
