My understanding was that the agreement could be extended. The game was extremely popular here, so Houston wanted to extend the series. Tech cancelled it. Your own quote indicated that Tech didnt want to play Houston anymore, which I believe is the point several posters have tried to make.
I said I only recalled because I couldn't find proof of that. Look, simple as this, there was no cancellation just not an extension of the agreement. The original agreement called for a 1 and 1. That fulfillment was agreed upon and executed. The game may have been popular in Houston but it was the least attended Tech game in 2010( 53K). UH fans showed up in record numbers(32,114) at that time for their 1st Big 12 Texas school since what the 01-02 season?
No. We played Okie St. two years before at Robertson. It was a 2 for 1 series. We won the first at home, lost the second at Stillwater, and then won in Stillwater the same year we beat Tech.

Says the guy playing in a stadium capacity that seems awfully familiar.....
Ford Stadium Capacity: 32,000
Robertson Stadium Capacity: 32,000
And before you pull the our stadium can be expanded....

Hey I am not the one complaining that Big12 teams will not play us at home..UH fans are.. I know why they will not play us....our stadium is too small. I admit it, UH fans need to do the same

I don't refute your observation.
On the other hand, there are two factors playing in here. First, the B12 expanded to a 9 game schedule to increase the inventory of tv games. Oklahoma State dropped a series with Purdue and dropped a few games with Tulsa to make room for 9 conference games. It just wasn't Houston. In the short run, I suspect, OSU cancelled some 2 for 1 deals, without question. The B1N has gone to 9 conference games to make more money off their network so Purdue needed to drop a game also. It just isn't a simple Houston vs OSU issue.
As always, the second long term factor for these 2 for 1 deals is money. A seat on the 10 yard line for a Okla St home gaem costs $90. If you want a seat between the 35 yard lines, just forget it. These seats are season ticket sales only and require a donation. I forgot the amount of donation but I think it is $1,000 per seat.
In these BCS vs NonBCS arguments, many times a NonBCS school will cite their "good" home attendance as favorable to many BCS schools. However, the ticket prices and required donations get factored out many times.
The reason most of the Big12 teams do not play home and home with Houston is Robertson stadium is too small. OSU, OU, UT, A&M, etc are huge draws in Houston because of their alumni base living there. Playing in Robertson prevents their local fans from seeing the game.
UT tried playing at Robertson once and UH blew it big time....it was a disaster. UH was suppose to provide temporary seating to handle some of the crowd and they did not do it. No wonder UT is mad ad UH.
The bottom line is, if UH wants to beef up their schedule and play Big12 teams they MUST build a 50,000 seat stadium...until they do, they should not cry because no one plays UH. And it certainly is NOT because anyone is afraid of them.
Plans are underway to increase the stadium size. Until then, I suspect Houston would be willing to go to Reliant for a UT. Bleachergate is a black eye Houston would not want to repeat.
Plans are just plans...they do not really mean anything. Until the stadium is built do not expect any teams to sign contracts to play. If UH is wiling to play in Reliant, why didn't they play UT there and avoid the bleacher disaster....
Ok. Now your just being stupid, argumentive, and somewhat troll like. Houston has already agreed to play Rice at Reliant--why wouldn't they play Texas there? This is like arguing with a teenager.

Why are you asking me why wouldn't UH play UT at Reliant? I am not a UH fan. All I know is they had a chance, but instead played them at Robertson in the bleacher disaster.
No need for name calling....that is what teenagers do when they are losing an argument.
By the way, if you have read my other posts on this board you willl see that I have been an advocate of UH being invited to join the Big12.

Those same bleachers were the ones used on a side of a mountain until a UT engineer deemed them unsafe. Then 3 independent engineers deemed them safe.
The entire ordeal was a joke. F UT.

Your obvious inference is that they would still not play at Reliant. That is wrong. They didnt want Reliant against Texas 10 years ago for several reasons. At the time, attendance was still a big issue. One of the bigger reasons they wouldnt move the game was because they wanted to show off a refurbished Robertson stadium atmosphere hoping to attract return visits from fans who had not been to a UH game in a long time. I understand why the administration did it, but in retrospect I think even they would acknowledge it was mistake. At least they have learned from thier mistake and are moving forward.

I thought the Houston Fire Marshall deemed those seats unsafe. How would UT have any control over seating at an event sponsored by the University of Houston?

jeffraider2000, it is not difficult to find the story, but it is apparently more difficult than smearing feces.

Not Jeff. Looks like Born I were both wrong. It was a enginner hired by UH that deemed the bleachers unsafe. So what exactly did I do to smear UH?:ncaabbs: One of your brothers claimed we cancelled the series and I asked for a link? None has been provided. It seems certain coogs mission in life is to smear other Texas schools ( mainly those in the Big 12) because they got left behind. It's not those schools fault that UH didn't have anyone in the legislature fighting for UH to be included.

Why is it no one has stated the obvious? Are Houston fans so certain that they would be undefeated without this soft schedule? Maybe you should be thankful for that soft schedule...

Hey, I wasnt trying to smear anyone. The discussion was about how its becoming very dificult to schedule BCS teams. I repeated what a sports reporter had said on a radio show about Houston asking several Big-12 schools and getting no takers. I also added what a Tech alumni had told me about the Texas Tech series. Unfortunately for me, after digging for a while, I was able to find a link that indicated I was wrong. It was only a 2 game agreement with Tech--they did not cancel anything. However, I think the alumni I spoke to just got his facts crossed. Texas Tech did cancel a game this year---but it was with TCU to schedule Texas State.
