RE: Big Eash fb championship in NY
Unless both teams can drive to the game, a neutral game site sets up to be a disaster. You just cannot get enough fans to the game with a week or two notice. TCU fans will show up if given enough time, but to expect 15,000+ to get to NYC in a week is basically impossible.

We have been to enough pre-Chistmas bowl games to know how it works.

RE: Big Eash fb championship in NY
The key to a neutral site championship game is to have nearly all teams within a 12 hr driving radius with the vast majority within 6-8 hrs max. This is the formula that worked for the SEC and will work for the Big Ten (and now the ACC having moved to Charlotte). This is the formula that prevented the Pac 12 from going neutral site. The only possible centralized location for the Pac 12 is Las Vegas and that's still 13+ hrs from most of the schools.

I agree that the Meadowlands, Lincoln, or Fed Ex are better places to hold a game, but until BE Teams travel better Yankees Stadium is the best venue for the Big East. It'll be a packed house where those other 3 will have 40-50k in a 70K sized stadiums. Which is why I favor holding the games at the highest rated team or on a East/West or North/ South rotating basis.

03-idea I like having the game in New York City area, just not in a baseball stadium, Heck, some you want a small stadium, so use the Rutgers stadium, but have the rest of the events B4 the game in the Big Apple. 04-cheers

New York city is home advantage for the northern division....I think DC is as close as you get to any balance...Cheaper to.

All for a Yankee Stadium game. Or Citi Field or Citizen's Bank Park. I would avoid the large pro stadiums, especially the Meadowlands which remains locationally challenged and only really suitable for the captive NFL audiences. The new baseball fields "feel" more like events, their mid-40000s capacities are more realistic sell-out possibilities and we would avoid the ACC championship game overhead shots.

Nah, that flies in the face of my idea for a pre-seaon Big East Tournament that I still hope comes to fruition. But I just hate the idea of a championship game anyway

If you are looking for a location balance, it has to be Pittsburgh or Philly. An dneither of those are really "sexy," so why bother with a neutral site. One mistake The ACC made was having a CCG in a market they don't really control. We don;t even have a team in DC, Maryland, or Virignia.

I agree that Yankee stadium would make an NYC conference championship game more realistic. 80,000+ would be very tough to do but 40,000 seems potentially manageable. The BE needs a lot more time to grow before the Meadowlands becomes a feasible option. However, I'm still weary of a neutral site regardless.

I just cannot believe that so many people who are "experts" think that playing a cold weather game in a half empty stadium is a good idea. And half empty will be giving it the benefit of the doubt.

As much as I hate the possibility of an off campus championship game Yankee Stadium is the best venue in NYC or our games will look eerily similar to the ACC Title Games.

A baseball stadium is a really stupid place to plat a football game! 03-puke

Wilkie you know you have college bowl games being played @ the home fields of San Francisco Giants, Tampa Bay Rays & the New York Yankees. Plus Yankee Stadium has a history of hosting big time college football games & even the Big Ten is now having games @ Wrigley Field

BEast has bowl tie-ins with two of those ball parks.

Since the BEast only has eight teams, the CCG is all just speculation at the moment...or is it?!?!?: ) I think the best place to have it is at the stadium of the team with the best record. BEast does not travel at SEC- or B1G-levels.

The BEST place to have it IMO if it will be a neutral-site game is Yankees Stadium. I suggested that several months ago. Big city. Media hub of the world. The BEast already plays a bowl there and SU/RU/CT are all very close - even if their teams are not involved there would be some takers. There are 18M (??) people in the tri-state area; I bet 40k would be interested in attending. Call it something snazzy like the Gotham Championship presented by PNC Bank or the KFC Finger Lickin' Good Bucket Bowl.03-lmfao

NYC would be great for exposure, but neutral site is just a bad idea. Giants stadium would be way too large so it'd have to be Yankee Stadium. I'd love it, but only if it could be sold out every year. Syracuse, Rutgers, UConn, and WVU seem like the only sure fire strong supporters.

A flight from DFW to NYC on short notice would be killer. The 3 additions to get us to 12 could also be poor NYC travel teams.

There are nine. Otherwise you are correct.

I do not care, football should be played in a real football stadium! 04-rock

The Pinstripe Bowl was great. I think a Big East Championship game their could work easily. It seats 54,325 for football games. About 44,000 tickets were sold for Bowl game. Only about 38k showed, but I attribute that to the snow storm that hit their just before the game. There is a problem though in that the overwhelming majority of people there were Syracuse fans. I could see a problem if TCU were to make the championship game. Along with a school like UCF no one would show. I do believe that if USF made the championship that more USF fans would come than people are thinking. Louisville, Cincinnati, West Virginia, and Pittsburgh also would bring a lot of fans. Syracuse, Rutgers, or UConn making the game would be ideal for ticket sales though. Especially if TCU makes the game.

Yes, but you had 3-4 weeks for fans to make plans, and it was during a time when a lot of people had off work due to holidays. When you consider that, that is actually not a great showing. Add in only having one week to make plans, being in between holidays (harder to get off work), and the necessity to fly for most fans, and you are looking at trouble. Just like the ACC had, only worse.

But the other team was Kansas State. I don't know how their fans travel but I don't know if they would want to travel to a middle-tier bowl game which essentially meant nothing against Syracuse at a baseball stadium. IDK, just a thought.

Flights from anywhere to anywhere on a week's notice are expensive. The only way a BE CCG works at a neutral site is if an airline agrees to supply extra planes from the host cities to the teams invovled on short notice at a reduced cost. And I don't see that happening.
It would be in an airline's favor to reserve charters for the game. They could then be placed where needed. They'd be guaranteed to sell out most years...

I tend to agree about Yankee Stadium. If we're going to hold a football championship game, let's hold it in a football stadium...

Kansas State has by far some of the best traveling fans in division I football. They travel very well to everything.

I think it would be an interesting concept. And a great sponsorship arrangement. But I have no idea of the logistics of this. Even if you had 50 planes (737's) on standby, that would still only be about 6,500 people.
