John Marinatto says Big East fb championship game in NY a phenomenal possibility.

Where there is smoke there is typically fire. I'm beginning to think you will see a different Big East when our new contract starts. TV execs are telling the Big East leadership to cut the fat in basketball, and add value with additional football schools.

Will it be 12-16?
I'm more in favor of the PAC-12's model for a CCG but I wouldn't mind a neutral site game in the New Meadowlands Stadium as it would showcase the Big East's crown jewel- New York City. However any neutral site game at any site has the danger of looking like the infamous ACC championship game.
Just dont put it in Yankee stadium
BE neutral site FB championship = BAD IDEA!

Yes, indeed. What happens if you have USF vs. TCU?

As much as I hate the possibility of an off campus championship game Yankee Stadium is the best venue in NYC or our games will look eerily similar to the ACC Title Games.

Exactly. USF-TCU might not fill up the stadium but if you had say Syracuse-Rutgers I think it could probably fill it up 80%+. This isn't the Big 10 or SEC where no matter what teams are playing you'll probably fill the CCG's host stadium to capacity. The Big East's brass needs to think about that.
Having any potential BEast Championship game in NYC would be an exercise in futility, unless a very few select teams participated every year. But it would be very hard to sell tickets many years IMO. If we're going to pick a neutral site, Philadelphia, D.C. or Baltimore would be better choices. They're more centrally located, excepting TCU (who's screwed on neutral site games, unless Jerry wants the game and offers a primo deal). If we want to centralize for TCU, Nashville would be a good option, and it would allow us to plant a seed in SEC country. You never know, it could grow into a good sized tree...

It is...doubt it would ever happen...but I think the Commish even TALKING about a Championship Game is a good thing (i.e. agenda to push for 12 football members might be on the table).

Big East would do exactly what the Pac-12 will do and what CUSA have done, let the team with the best record host the game so that the game would be played in a good atmosphere, sell tix, and look good on TV.

Interesting philosophy
I don't like the idea as a USF fan but keep in mind.....if there is a championship game in NYC.....that means we probably have a 12 team league broken into 2 divisions. I would assume all the Northeastern Teams would be in the East/North Division so you would probably never have a TCU-USF game. Mind you, the Eastern team would always have the advantage in that game.

Assuming the North Division was WVU, Pitt, SU, Rutgers, UConn and maybe say ECU.

The South Division would always get the shaft.....maybe assume UCF, UH, then USF, TCU, UofL and Cincy.
I had to cut down this 200 year old loblolly pine over my trip back home to WV. It was hist by lightning, and opened up to the core from top to trunk. It was the tree I built my first treehouse in. Of course, it collapsed shortly after I built it. It wasn't built to withstand a dozen kids jumping up and down. It took out the 1965 Christmas tree when it fell, and just missed the cherries. I feel like I've lost an old friend, and it's made me a little introspective lately...

That said, it's not a bad plan when you think about it. BB, I'm talking about the Nashville option...
The problem I have with an NYC championship game is that flights from Texas to NYC on a week's notice are fairly cost prohibitive.
I wonder if the reason the BE is even thinking Neutral Site game for such a thing is the fact that USF and Pitt share an NFL stadium.

If you were to play a championship game at the home stadium of the team with the best record....Pitt and USF would have to make arrangements at the beginning of every season to possibly need that Saturday available.

The problem with USF I would see is that if that were to happen....if the Bucs played at home the following day....you would have that stupid Bucs logo....or at least the outline of it in the middle of the field for the BE Championship game. That would not look very professional. You would almost have to ensure the Bucs never played a home game the 1st week in December every season.

Is that a big deal since we have to have that weekend open for ESPN right now?
Yes and No Matt. I know a few years back.....I want to say 2008....ESPN wanted to close the season with USF playing Rutgers in Tampa on a Thursday night. That year the TSA and Raymond James already had the ACC championship game playing on Saturday. When ESPN and USF approached the TSA about doing a quick turnaround from Thuirsday to Saturday.....the TSA said no way. So USF had to play that weekend on the Road.

Same deal if USF plays on a Saturday with a Sunday Bucs game....you can do it....but then the field is done up for a Bucs game. I think this year with USF playing WVU on Thursday 12/1.....the field should be done for USF with enough time to switch it to the Bucs for Sunday 12/4.
Actually BB it wasnt TSA it was more of the ACC and the contract that they had signed. That was what let to the uproar that the ACC was keeping USF from playing a home game afew days earlier that led to better deal with RJS

Flights from anywhere to anywhere on a week's notice are expensive. The only way a BE CCG works at a neutral site is if an airline agrees to supply extra planes from the host cities to the teams invovled on short notice at a reduced cost. And I don't see that happening.
A lot of these articles seem to indicate that TV executives are pushing the idea of 12 football members...and possibly even a split. This will be an interesting year, for sure.
If we went to a 12 school model I would prefer the Pac 12 of school with the best record host or it alternates between the two divisions. If both schools have the same record and did not play each other & u are using the best record then the tie breaker should be BCS Ranking.

As for cutting the fat I would guess it would be like this:

BIG EAST
North Division or Ole BIG EAST

West Virginia
Pittsburgh
UConn
Syracuse
Rutgers
Villanova

South Division or BIG-USA
Louisville
Cincinnati
TCU
Houston
South Florida
Central Florida

Basketball Schools
Georgetown
Notre Dame
Saint John's
Providence
