Captains are well respectd guys, but coaches were always the ones that got you going and ready to play.

I just thought the players might share in the responsibility in how they play and/or rise to the occasion and that perhaps captains or other team leaders might help in that regard.

They do to a point, but the name of the game is playing time....the coaches control that, so they hold all the cards.
