RE: 2 more schools cancel footbal
The argument that it is the Democrats that done it is about as rational as me saying it was because of gay football players. We know that in the south it is tougher for gays to be in society. They must have eliminated football because of all the homosexuals. I'm just sayin.
Your leftist hypothesis is about as realistic as my Bruser Larue one.

Uh, Northeast- There is no excess money.
The athletic budget has gone down from 6 mil to 5 mil in just the last 2-3 years.
The money raised to build a soccer stadium could have just as easily been raised to keep ETSU's Southern Conference membership with a football program, thus keeping ETSU in a more prominent light both in the community and nationwide.

Now, Bruser, without knowing whether or not the budget you reference has decreased because the one time construction costs aren't in it, it is hard to know. The athletic budget decrease you mention could be caused by one time construction cost funds being diverted away from the yearly budget and into a construction budget. If that is the case, then it wouldn't show up on the athletic buget?
Being in the southern conference must not have meant too much to the community, since no one came to southern conference football games in the dome. Outside of socon cities no one else in the nation cares who is in the socon.

RE: 2 more schools cancel footbal
When I first got the internet in 1999, I remember talking about college football on the CBS Sportsline message boards.
One week their "Game of the Week" for discussion was Furman v. Appalachian State.
I'm not saying they are rivited by the Southern Conference in Peoria, but it does have more prestige than the A-Sun (see NCAA seeding). For instance, when Duquesne beat VMI in football at the beginning of the decade, there was a buzz in the papers here because the Dukes had beaten a Southern Conference school.
Granted, not a real good one, but regardless.
As far as the other stuff, you are REALLY grasping at straws. The athletic budget did not go from 12 million for a soccer field to five mil, it went from six to five.

Among other things, I am an accountant. Without additional information I can't tell how the athletic donations and other ticket revenue has been categorized. I don't have enough information. What I am saying is that you can't look at an athletic budget as a stand alone thing, especially one that loses money and has to have money from the general fund or else where to stay in the black.
I'm just saying that someone could have donated money to facility construction that may or may not show up in the athletic budget. It may go straight into a fund used for construction? That same person may have donated money in the past that went straight into the athletic budget and was used for football or softball.
Without actual data, clues of this happening could be decreases in the athletic budget around the time the university was trying to collect money for construction. Were the donations to construction projects and decreases in donations to the athletic program close in amount and timing?
It could also be the fact that the economy has been tanking for about two years and overall donations are down?
I have no idea the reason for the drop, but you can't look at things so simply sometimes.

You spoke of excess money. Any way you slice it, five mil is a decrease from six mil.
Figures released by ETSU say it cost two mil to build the golf facility alone back in the early part of the decade. The soccer facility cost seven, if memory serves.
The figures released do not back up your theory.

Very much so.
But if your theory was correct, then athletic expenses would have to have been negative one million this year.

I never mentioned expenses, it is about revenue.
revenue
- expenses
profit (loss)
I was talking about revenue, which in this dicussion is donations and ticket money.
