Of course, if Davis should coach this diminished team into the "Sweet 16" and "Elite 8", he could get offers from teams we can't hope to match. Barring that unlikely event, I don't see Davis being swamped with "offers he can't refuse" or UAB feeling it can do substantially better with another coach. I expect UAB will see if Davis can recruit and sign the kind of players we need to become nationally respected in BB competition, and Coach Davis will stick around to see if he can finish what he started with predictions of highly regarded recruiting classes and improved performances on the court in the 2009-2010 season.

+1

While having the #1 class is improbable it is still very possible that we get the highest rated class in UAB history - we'll need it.

In fact he indicated a commitment to Davis. The question is Davis's commitment to UAB.

That has to be the single most naive statement I have ever heard. Davis might be going, and he might be staying. But to think that the AD would tell you or anybody else outside of about 5 people what the real deal is- that is insane. When will you learn that ADs and administrators number one job is to lie like crazy. Even when they are on the drive to the office to can a head coach, they will smile, put on a good front and say that everything is fine. We're happy with our situation. Etc. etc. etc. I actually have faith in Mackin and Garrison to do what is best for UAB- believe it 100%. I also belive 100% they aren't going to tell anybody anything other than "everything is kosher," even if the ship were about to hit an iceberg. That's the nature of the business.

RE: Interesting comment from Davis tonight.
bates, I know all about "coach speak" and "saying the right things" I knew I would most likely get "coachspeak" so to speak. Don't preach to me skippy. I can only go on what I am told. I personally have been lied to by both coaches and ADs before at not only at UAB but other Universities as well in my dabbling with media related things and in my professional career but I also have been privy to some stuff that were not "kosher". Obviously I can't divulge my entire conversation but I would say based on the wording of certain things, I feel good about my statement. In other words, if he would have worded things differently I would perhapps feel different based on my relationship with him that preceeds his AD position at UAB.

Don't shoot the messenger.

This board was the last to believe that Cousins had reopened his recruiting. Even when reports to the contrary were all over the place. Apparently this board will also be the last to believe that Davis is possibly out the door at the end of the season.

I hope everyone's butt is getting a nice tan while their heads are stuck in the sand.

RE: Interesting comment from Davis tonight.
Who knows what will happen? I think I said that more than once..... All I am saying I see no hard evidence he will be fired at the end of the season. He could be fired tomorrow but I doubt it. We will just have to wait and see.

I doubt Cousins will ever play college basketball but if he does he still could end up at UAB. I doubt it but anything is possible.

Again, I intend to enjoy the season and will worry about that when the time comes. I feel confident that mackin will do what is best for UAB.

Things I believe:

Cousins will NEVER play for UAB.

Davis will NOT be the UAB coach next season.

Attalla and MB will almost always disagree.

BlazerSax was the glue that bound this board together. Now that he's gone, we no longer have a designated whipping boy, so we beat up on each other.

Ridiculous thread, considering: UAB has never fired a football or basketball head coach. And just who is seriously interested in "buying" Davis from UAB. I've heard absolutely no buzz about anyone being interested in Davis.

More naivety if you don't think Murry was fired. Sure it was reported that he "resigned" but he did not leave on his own. For that matter, neither did Hilyer.

Still, not fired, just not retained or given an extension. That's a long way from being fired. Especially money-wise.

RE: Interesting comment from Davis tonight.
When you want to continue working somewhere, but you are not retained, and someone else takes your job- you got fired. Calling it something else is just AD/Administration speak like I mentioned earlier. For instance- the guys down at Auburn can say all they want, Tuberville got fired. Likewise, Murray wanted to continue coaching at UAB, but instead Mike Anderson was coaching the next season. Murray got fired. Sacked. Sh*tcanned. Whatever.
