why do you think that would cause a split?
Yeah, with ECU coming aboard, it will have 12 and that event will cause a split. S Miss will make 13 when they get added as S Miss wont add lax unless they know the Big East/American will take them. It would be absolutely embarrassing for S Miss to have to resort to the A Sun or SoCon for a spot. Yeah, know S Miss isn't in the American, but they want to be.
Yeah, it'd be terrible for Southern Miss's WLAX team to have to associated with teams like ODU.
As if ODU plans to stay long term there in the ASUN. Womens lax is a much better fit geographically to ODU. S Miss looks on it more as a help to get into the AAC.
ODU and ASun was a marriage of convenience brought forth by ODU's sub-mediocrity for most of its women's lacrosse program's existence. Conversely, field hockey and its multiple national titles (and with USA field hockey's national training center in adjacent Virginia Beach) made it much more attractive, and thus found a home in the Big East upon leaving the CAA.
But women's lax has improved pretty rapidly in the past few years, and went to its first NCAA tournament last year. If the AAC does sponsor women's lacrosse, I could see ODU moving there for that sport.
