how they each get to 6? Denver and ODU to the BE and Vandy and Florida to American? Vica versa?
Florida ,Vandy and Denver remain with BE for 7 and ODU and ? to American for 6? or does ECU join as # 11 (or become indy)?
Or Florida/ODU to the American and Vandy/Denver to the Big East. There'd be that whole splitting conference teams thing again but it'd make sense for the BE to stay 100 percent private as much as it can (acknowleding that Temple and ODU are already BE for field hockey).
It'd be a big loss for the Big East. Florida and UCONN have been at or near the top of the conference in WLax and UCONN has dominated in Field Hockey (including National Titles in 2013 & 2014).
well if the rumors are true UConn isn't going anywhere.in fact they will be all in!

Be curious which states official sponsor girl's lacrosse as a high school activity, and what the participation numbers are like in those states.
Always glad to see new varsity sports giving opportunities for women to compete!

The Hattiesburg American says Southern Miss will start another women's sport, likely lacrosse. That would almost assure the Big East will split off the American in that sport.

Yeah, with ECU coming aboard, it will have 12 and that event will cause a split. S Miss will make 13 when they get added as S Miss wont add lax unless they know the Big East/American will take them. It would be absolutely embarrassing for S Miss to have to resort to the A Sun or SoCon for a spot. Yeah, know S Miss isn't in the American, but they want to be.

USM isn't in the American. wouldnt it be more likely for them to join the ASUN or maybe the big south? Has ECU announced a conference? I haven't really been paying attention but I thought they plan to be indy but WANT/HOPE to be with the American schools. I guess I didn't read your whole post you addressed this already. oops

Yeah, it'd be terrible for Southern Miss's WLAX team to have to associated with teams like ODU.

I never in a million years thought women's LAX would ever become a point of discussion here.

As if ODU plans to stay long term there in the ASUN. Womens lax is a much better fit geographically to ODU. S Miss looks on it more as a help to get into the AAC.

Just looked at the MHSAA website. Lacrosse is not a sanctioned sport in the state.
Therefore, a public university in Mississippi has no business using state tax dollars to sponsor a varsity sport that, by definition, can have no Mississippi participants on the roster.

So when are you going to start a massive crusade against crew. An absurd number of P5's sponsor it in states that think it's only a haircut.

ODU and ASun was a marriage of convenience brought forth by ODU's sub-mediocrity for most of its women's lacrosse program's existence. Conversely, field hockey and its multiple national titles (and with USA field hockey's national training center in adjacent Virginia Beach) made it much more attractive, and thus found a home in the Big East upon leaving the CAA.
But women's lax has improved pretty rapidly in the past few years, and went to its first NCAA tournament last year. If the AAC does sponsor women's lacrosse, I could see ODU moving there for that sport.

GA, FL and TX sponsor it. Southern Miss wants and needs to be ahead of the curve. Fat chance crew will ever be sponsored in the Magnolia State.

So S Miss is justified in spending Mississippi residents' tax dollars ... to fund varsity sports for high school players from GA, FL, and Texas?

30-35 roster spots, 12 max schollies.
That's a lot of out-of-state tuition would be paid to Mississippi

Bingo.
Not to mention if Southern Miss starts a program, high schools will eventually follow. Southern Miss will need to provide the infrastructure to develop the sport st the high school level - first with camps and coaches' clinics, then by hosting tournaments for the few schools with programs, then as a postseason site for varsity competition.
